Ok so I'm posting here for members of a forum I frequent. Some members are saying that an oil change is an engine out service and that ownership costs are 17K/4000-5000 miles. I myself find that hard to believe so I'm here asking you guys to clear this up.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Hello friend. :):)

NO Ferrari (automobile) ever made needs the engine out for an oil change. :p:p

The 458 has no need to have the engine out for anything service work. :):)

A 458 oil change would vary from $150 if you did it yourself to $500+ at the most expensive dealer I would say. :):)

Im sure there are owners on here already that have had their 5000 mile service that can contribute to this...................errrrr, if they want. :p:p

The F355 required the engine out to replace the timing chain at 15,000 miles at a cost of about $15K, if I recall correctly, but that doesn't apply to the 458.

This is directly from the service manager at a dealership.

Over 5 years the F430 needs 40 hours of routine service. The 458 needs 12. The 458 will never need to have it's clutch replaced or any service done to the gearbox.

    End of story.

I was going to make a crack about 458's being designed to burn to the ground before the clutch burns out... ;)

    But I'll keep it serious.

No clutch / gearbox service??? Does that mean they are replaced as a unit? what is the expected life?

No the belts, 5 years or 30,000 miles and the cost was about $6,000 USD, about 8 years ago.

Ferrari of Denver charged me a total of 15 hours labor for the 5 annual services on my 430. I suppose 2 pedal cars could be more, but I doubt it would be 25 more. I presume costs will go up the next five years as it will need accessory belts and spark plugs at some point.

Yep... they are designed for the life of the car. If it needs to be replaced, it is swapped out complete with a new unit. It's not built by Ferrari.

Do they give any guestimate what clutch life is expected to be? Do the 458's have launch control?

I understand how there will be no wear during shifts, but there still has to be slippage starting from a stop. I can't believe the unit can last very long if people do hard launches all the time with or without launch control.

It's a wet clutch. There is vitually no internal clutch wear.
