I own a 348. I want to add another car to my stable. I was thinking of a new Z06, but for that kind of money I am getting close to a 355. I own a 348 and I love it - I don't want to get rid of it. My question is...is having a 348 and a 355 stupid? Should I get something totally different? I was told that the 355 is very different than a 348, which may justify having both.

the vast majoirty of people will tell you to your face that owning one of such a car is stupid :)

life is short. if it makes you happy, go for it.

that said, as a former 355 owner, i'm not so sure i'd pick a 355 over a Z06 that easily.....

In my opinion you can never own to many Ferrari's so owning a 348 and a 355 is not stupid. If i could afford to have more then one i would have owned several. Go for it! If you would like a nice 355 check out www.kipshewardmotorsports.com you can trust him and buy a car sight unseen. He recently sold a 328 for me and had several beautiful 355 on the floor.

Thanks for the post. As a previuos 355 owner, what's your overall opinion of the 355?

My concern with the vette is it's a vette at the end of the day. I like vettes, but I don't love them like I love Ferrari's. I know it's bad a** and fast, but I think a 355 will offer enough power to be fun. What do you think? Or is the Z06 so insane it makes it worth it?

I own a 355 and purchased my 2nd car last spring a 456m. You might want to think about a 12cyliner, its a great compliment to a V8 and offers a completely different Fcar experience plus for the money the 456's are the best value Fcar now IMO, if you add kids into the equation it's a no brainer. The early 550's are also getting to be a good value.

IMHO i would put it this way; i own a F355 Spider and as a car enthusiast (so not only Ferrari's) i recently also drove a (standard and i know it's a BIG difference to the Z06) 400 hp Z6 Corvette. Although the car is very impressive, especially in the value for money aspect i considered it less "special" than the Ferrari. When driving around in it for about an hour it didn't feel very special anymore, what is a big pro in terms of every day useabillity, but a "toy" must remain special all the time. I took mine for a trip to Scotland a few months ago and i could not stop grinning all week long. Why don't you take 1 360?

    To bjm, I agree.

To Traimpz348 , the bottom line is, if its what you want...then its not stupid. The only opinion that matters is your own.

That being said, the 348 and 355 are both very similar and highly related Fcars. You might find yourself loving the modern conveniences and extra torque of the 355 and ignoring the 348...or, you might actually prefer the non-power steering and "rawer" driving experience of the 348, and ignore the 355. I would venture, strictly IMHO, that they are too similar to justify keeping both, one would surely be favoured over the other eventually ...why not branch out? Or try a spider variant for one, keeping the coupe for the other?

Also ,the quoted advise above is one I agree with. Having a 12 and an 8 cyl. Fcar option under the same garage would be ideal in my books...an Fcar for every occasion, so to speak.

The reality is, only you know what floats your boat...so act accordingly :)

I like the 550 idea, never thought of that for some reason. I think I will always enjoy the "rawness" of the 348. Maybe the 550 is the better option if I'm going to have two fcars. I think a new search maybe starting......

    Thanks!

Had both great cars. I see no reason not to have both. I think I WOULD MAKE ONE OF THEM AN OPEN CAR OR SPIDER!!!! 355 is a much better in my opinion ride then a zo6....

Drive a 550 or an F355 and see which you feel is the better choice for you. Also since you mentioned the Z06 I see that you're open to other marquees. Have you considered a Maserati? You can pick them up for less than $70k all day long with low miles and a warranty. Their very fun cars and they make great daily drivers, I used mine as a daily and it served me very well. If you're looking for a 2nd weekend car to use and don't really want the practicality of the Maserati Coupe/Spyder then the F355 sounds good for you.

    Good luck with your search.

    Regards,
    Kevin

I would not have both in my stable as they are too similar and as has been mentioned, one will be ignored...guaranteed. Get a 12 cylinder Ferrari or how about an Aston Martin? Do you want a pure sports car or sports/luxury?? If you really want a 2nd sports car, how about a Noble for a really tossable track/fun car....these things are unparalleled in performance for the dollar!

i have been through almost exactly what you describe, except the cars were 355 and 360. my opinion no is that, after a while, they feel very similar (don't get me wrong, the 360 is definitely the better car, in terms of performance). It's just that they are both rear drive, similar centre of gravity, similar power, and there isn't really the contrast that you might as well have if you're going to put some much money into your garage.
so i ditched the 360 and got a late model diablo.

    wow! talk about contrast!

now, when i choose to go for a fun drive, i can opt for a lightweight sports car, not so powerful, but fun to throw around windy roads, or a car with enough grunt to warp spacetime!
a pair of contrasting performance cars is more enjoyable for me ...

My wife would say one is stupid and 2 is supider! However, I have a 328 GTB and a 430 coupe. I think the only thing better than one is 2 or more! However, the 348 and 355 are pretty similar, the body panels even interchange. You might consider a 308/328 with the 355, or a 550 with the 348. The combos are endless which is a big part of the fun!

As someone who is completely unbiased one way or another, I would imagine that someone would really have to be crazy to choose any late-model Ferrari over the C6 Z06. At this point, knowing what that car can do, it's almost silly for people to consider even a much newer 360 Modena over that car. Sure, it doesn't carry quite the stigma that many of you probably looking for in owning a Ferrari, but it is so much more of what a car should be. Forget about heritage for a second and just look at the cars themselves, and there is no way that you could consider a 355, 360, or perhaps even a 550 over a C6 Z06.

(This comes from someone who has NEVER liked Vettes until this latest generation.)

I think the 355 is one of the best Ferrari's ever made (purely subjective)
To have a 2-Ferrari garage would be a dream come true.
    I'd say get 2 F-cars!

It's not all about speed and performance. Unless you are going to do a lot of tracking, how many times are you going to push either one to their limit? At the end of the day the Vette is just a Vette. Nice car mind you, but it is NOWHERE near what a Ferrari feels like to drive, period.

The 550 + 348 combo is the ticket. I have a 348ts and a 550 and they compliment each other perfectly, especially if the 348 is a spider or a ts. I LOVE the manual steering of the 348, the brakes are great, and while it isn't the fastest, the scream of a Tubi'd 348 is second to none.
With a 550 you get monster torque, a V12 and lots of GT luxury.

I have not driven a new C6 yet, but from what I have read, despite the very high limits, the chassis is uncommunicatiove and the steering is numb. If that's the case, I would not want one, I would rather drive a 308. What all Ferraris seem to have in spades is the ability to connect the driver to the car and the surface. That's what makes them so addictive to me. O/w there is a bunch of other makes that make more sense in bang for the buck equations.
