He wasn't aware that the car was for a pilot TV show (the Magnum p.i pilot), he was under the impression that it was for a film titled: "Don't Eat The Snow In Hawaii" (which he thought was an odd title for a film - He found out later that it was actually the Magnum p.i pilot episode)

That's a great article! You really get a sense of a different time. I didn't read it in 1980, but I do remember reading it later in the 1980s. Probably sometime after I turned 16 & Magnum P.I. was a hit on TV.
It was one of three or four used in the pilot. There is a thread here that had a count on it from that episode.
