I had a flashing slow down light and pulled these codes from the scanner.

P0422 Cat. System Low Efficiency Bank 1

P0432 Cat. System Low Efficiency Bank 2

P1145 Heated Oxygen Sensor HO2s Cross Counts Bank 1 Sensor 3

Can someone tell me what this means and what has to be done to fix this?

Thanks for any help. The car drives jus fine but the blinking light is distracting.

You likely have bad CAT's. Need to pull them off and visually inspect them. Cores are probably toast.

It could be an air leak in the exhaust or intake. Bad o2 sensors or bad cats. You really need to do some more searching and testing before you pony up for new cats.

I've been getting P0432 and P0422 since I got my 11K mile 99 spider in 2021. They came seldom at first, but then almost daily when using a/c. The car ran fine, though the mileage wasn't thrilling. Because I kept getting them together, even though the cats were intact, I went back to the one thing they share, and that is the MAF. Superformance wants 177 pounds sterling for a new one, but I got a Chinese knock-off on ebay for $18. Since installing it, I've noticed three things. First of all, no more CELs. Second, the car seems slightly more responsive and edgy. Thirdly, the idle control valve is somewhat lazy and the idle can fall and then rise to correct levels. I think what was happening is that the MAF was sufficiently off to let the ECU drop into open loop operation, where it was using stored values to run things, and not the values it was getting from its sensors. Now that it's able to operate in closed loop mode, its able to consult its sensors, make correct calculations, and invoke the idle control valve, which in turn checks engine revs and makes its own adjustments. I'm going to lubricate the valve to make sure it's able to operate properly, but I couldn't be happier about the change in operation and the lack of lights on the dash. I had already taken care of SDLs by installing new thermocouples and three cat ECU's from Technistrada. I have five ECU thermocouples to sell, two black and three green. Haven't checked mileage yet.

Chinese MAFs are known to fail after a few months. Now you've identified the issue, save up for a real one (assuming the Superformance ones are real).
