Has anyone tried putting a resistor inline for the bypass valve thermocouple? I had the dreaded P1448 light come on - pulled off the exhaust heat shield and looks like my thermo was pretty frayed right at the connect point.

I'll be ordering a replacement but I had some resistors laying around from another project. Since I will getting exhaust in the very near future and have heard of others just leaving them "dangling in the atmosphere" was wondering if there was a more electrical fix.

My bypass valve is functioning perfectly.

The thermocouple sends a mv signal to the cat ecu.

It's not a resistance thing. Replace the TC .

Thanks, was wondering if you could still avoid a light by having a constant versus a pulse.

Is there a universal thermo out there that folks use that I can just plug the pins into my existing harness?

It is a K type thermocouple that needs to be correctly terminated with the correct connector to plug into the cat ecu.

Yes this is very easy to do, a connector and resistor dipped together in epoxy will be anything you ever need for the TCs...

The idea is for the ECU to track valve operation. It wants to see one value range when the valve is supposed to be closed and another value range when the valve is supposed to be open. No fixed value will keep light off.

    Exactly what Brian said.

I just check my codes every few drives to be sure 1448 is the only code.

Has anyone attempted to make a replacement or source one? I was hoping for a DIY as these sensors are incredibly inexpensive compared the ones available with the Ferrari tax.

I have done some extensive reading with lots of debating involved (drbob - I believe you were working on a solution, not sure if you had completed your research, I do see you offer replacement thermos, I may just pick up one while I start digging in)

I don't mind picking these things up, but I'm looking for a solution that could address both longevity and aftermarket modifications. I guess they probably don't exist as I'm sure I'd be filing for a patent! I have read about the box that jevs built some time ago, debating on keeping the tc's for the cats and just make a box for the one after the bypass as the other two seem to be the one which could cause a concern if triggered
