That's the Hussien 1, it was built in a shop at the airport here in Houston by John Mecom, see Texas Driver mag last month for an article on him.

See the fender logo? That was their Scuderia badge...I have a 1:18 of a 250LM Ferrari from Lemans '65....

They often had local guy AJ Foyt, Jr. at the wheel of their projects..big participants of Bahama Speed week....he later bought THE ENTIRE GM Corvette Grand Sport program from Chevrolet, six cars at the Factory turned into five delivered to his door, starting another urban legend.

The family started and owns American General Insurance company here, that was his dad's gig. I have not met him, but they say he is a total gentleman.

I believe the mysterious blue F50 was his, it's a custom color for the family race cars....HTH.

You'll recall Reventlow's Scarabs resembled Ferraris of the day.

Your a 'vette guy. I'm surprised you didn't recognize Mr. Mecom from the Grand Sport deal..........

I think the Hussien 1 scared the he11 out of even AJ........it had an awesome engine in it and when floored went ape $%$^& crazy!

Maybe there's some more info 'out there' on it.....

Post a pic of the blue F50, for mandatory Ferrari content! LOL!

When FoH got it back as trade in, they had to return it to red to sell it!
One of the first jobs of the new Body Shop.....they were repraying Paul Frame's Yellow one about the same time, it stayed yellow!

I must be off my feed today. However, I did note that the engine was built by Traco Engineering which built most of the hi-po Chevy engines for the big racers. (I also have a set of 4 mag wheels with the AJ Foyt logo center cap. I'm told they are quite scarce. Do I get any brownie points?)

    No longer here
    Tex,

    Ah, where to start....

The Hussein still exists, carefully put away in a collection. My recollection is that the bodywork was done in Indianapolis -- I'm actually pretty sure of that, as a looong time ago I knew the guy who did it. It's on an essentially standard Cooper Monaco chassis, modified only to take the Hemi. The Hussein (and I've seen it in the metal, years ago) looks nothing like a Ferrari other than it is a rear-engined sports-racer.

The blue F50, if it's the car I'm thinking of, belonged to a Dallas customer. His cars are also always painted a sort of an ice blue, a slightly different shade than Mecom. (Mecom blue is an standard 1963 Cadillac color.) His family have been good Risi customers.

There were five Grand Sports; Mecom owned three. (The other two stayed at GM for a couple of years, then were sold as roadsters to Roger Penske.) Three of the Grand Sports stayed around the Houston area after Mecom sold them, variously in the hands of Ed Sevadjian, Delmo Johnson, Jerry Hanna (a roadster) and one or two others. I have photos I took of the Sevadjian GS at Hammond, Louisiana in 1964, and of Jerry Hanna GS at Lake Charles, Louisiana, a few years later. Unfortunately all are slides, and I have no way to convert them to digital.

The Mecom family made its money in oil; John's father was one of the most famous wildcatters. The money has come and gone and come back, not unusual for that industry. At one time they also owned a great old hotel in Houston, the name of which fails me in a senior moment. John Jr imported Lolas for a while in the '60s, and won the Indy 500 with Graham Hill driving.

Mecom really is a nice guy, and owned Ferraris for years and years. Not all were obviously in his name -- almost any major Ferrari ever sold by Steve Forristall belonged to Mecom.

And finally, race driver Davy Jones was married to Mecom's daughter. My recollection is that they are no longer married.

Going back through all this, and having been there for most of it, makes me realize that I really am an Old Guy.

LOL! Glad you corrected my ramblings!

That'll teach me, to work without a fact checker!

Davy Jones came out for Child Advocates the last race I ran in the carts.
Not many there realized his Lemans win, etc.......His KartZone (since sold) sponsored a team.

He was associated with AJ during the Copenhagen years. I use a helment bag and duffel with that logo on it.

    Thanks, OG.

OG, thanks for the info. Apparently somebody didn't appreciate my comparison between the Hussein and the P3/4 because my thread was tossed into the OFF TOPIC CARS section where it will probably be forgotten. Oh well, here's some visual aids to verify why I thought the car was patterned very close to a P3/4. Besides the overall look, the details add more coincidences.
