So what's the deal with the Zonda? Is it legal in North America? I'v heard that it was illegal, can't remember if it was because of emmissions or saftey, but you could insure it as a show car as long as you only put a certain amount of miles on it per year. Anybody know the exact story?

It is not street legal yet. EPA and DOT regulations, most likely. However it is eligible to be driven under Show and Display regulations (2500miles/year).
Soon enough, Pagani will be perfectly road legal in the US ...

Yeah, I've heard reports that they are aiming to have road legal US versions by the 2007 model year...

I spoke to Pagani (the company, not the man) a year ago about possibly getting a Chicago Franchise. Pursuing a potential deal was broken by their firm stance on stating they will NOT be building a $250-300k 'smaller' vehicle. We'll see if this 'smaller' vehicle actually happens.

At that time they said they plan on selling the first US Legal Zonda's by Summer 2006, which will be a 'Final Run' Zonda. They want the first set of US Dealers to be up and running by Spring/Summer 2006.

The all new "C9" which replaces the Zonda (Twin Turbo V12 with atleast '620tq', quoted from Pagani himself), is being shown in 2007. Pagani is engineering that vehicle with plans for immediate sale in the US Market.

Anyone want to guess what the Zonda and "C9" will cost? with current exchange rates the Zonda hits close to $600,000 US.. way too much for my blood. Being such a small company I doubt they can afford to do any "Exchange Fixing". I think they'll have a tough time selling the aged Zonda for $600,000 by Summer 2006.

However, by late 2007, an all new Pagani, with a Twin Turbo AMG V12 (AMG contract extended recently til 2013) pushing out 'atleast' 620tq, probably over 700hp.. a Price tag in the High 500's might make it "worth it". When considering cars like the CGT and SLR.

And with any luck, Pagani will be riding the "wave of spending" associated with the release of the 2007/2008 Ferrari F60, perhaps those not willing to spend $1.5 million on an F60 will see "Logic" in checking out the $600k Pagani.
