Apparently, he did it quite some time ago. And it can be very profitable running a successful store in a good neighborhood.

Here I am. Sorry for the late reply.......

I have been switched around twice already and am now at the Tom Thumb at the corner of 360 and Pioneer Parkway in Arlington. I am one of several mangers at the store. I am going next week to Dallas for more training as I have been out of the grocery business so long I need some refresher training. Hopefully within the next twelve months I will be back in the role of overall store director. That is where you really want to be..........better hours, much better pay and much less work.

I work 10 hours per day. For one week I worked from 5am to 3pm (good schedule). This week it is 12 noon to 10pm four days and 9am-7pm on Saturday. Hard work for an old guy buy what the heck,,,,,,,I can hang......

Last week we had 20 packs of 12 oz Coors Light and Miller Light longnecks on sale for $9.99 per case. Would you guys like me to keep you notified if we run something like that again? $2.50 a 6-pack......not bad....

I will try to check back in more often but for now they are keeping me very busy. Something I have not been in the auto business for a long time.......

Thanks for thinking about me guys. I will let you know where I end up........

    Rodney,

I worked for Safeway for 16 years before I got into cars. I have always been a car nut since birth at least. Things got so slow in the car business for me that it demanded a change and in the grocery business, the right location can really help out. Not to mention good benefits and a retirement plan-something you do not get in the car business.

We will see how this works out. But for now it is a very steady income with the probability of much better in the not too distant future. I am one of the managers in the store I am in now and in refresher training for the store director position. Can be good................................

    "I love ya man,,,,,,,,"

I have just been working so hard I have not had any time to even view Ferrarichat, much less post anything. Look at the time now. I just got home from the store and took a few minutes to gulp down some food and look at the computer and now it is off to bed. I will be up at 7am leaving for work at 8:30 and home again around 8pm tomorrow night. And that is an early day..... But it is satisfying in that I am getting to use some of the management things I learned in the car business and actually getting the respect of most, you notice I did not say all, of the people who work with me.

Some of them look at me and say "You have only worked for Tom Thumb for a month and you want me to listen to you, and I have been working here for two years"?......"Duh, I began working in the supermarket industry before you were born and have forgotten more about it than you will ever learn". At least that is what I would like to say but I force myself to be more diplomatic than that "Have you ever considered doing it differently than you are now if you do not like the results you are getting? MIght I suggest this???????".

I am enjoying it but boy am I beat when I get home at night..............

Off to bed now.... Talk to you all later......NIghty, night now.................
