I see a lot of 308/Mondials for sale with paint chipped off the air box. Is this a normal wear item and the owners just never bothered to repaint them, or is this an indicator of something more important like past flood, fire, overheating, etc.?

Normal wear and tear on a part that was poorly prepped and painted from the factory in the first place. No source of concern here.

airbox or plenum? if plenum, what robert said. I added a Motovanti and am in the proces of scraping off all the old paint and buffing it out, really like the silver look with the Motovanti.

The airbox is black crackle finish. The white lettering has come off of many, many cars, but I don't think that there's a problem with the black paint. The plenum on QV's and 3.2's is red and the paint chips off...probably because of the stress of heating and cooling. If you are referring to the plenum, if it's chipped, it is an indicator of how meticulous the prior owner was (or wasn't), but it's not an indication of a major problem. If you meant the airbox, then it shouldn't be chipped and is a red flag.

Plenum. Thanks; I knew I wasn't calling it the right name.
