I'm getting ready to place the order for my 2014 coupe this week for what looks like to be either a late December or early January delivery. I'm feeling pretty solid on most of the specs but confess to going crazy with trying to decide colors, mainly on paint and to a lesser extent the interior. My choices seem to have come down to Grigio Silverstone or Grigio Ferro for paint, with the interior likely being a combination of Nero and Charcoal leather/Alcantaro with Grigio Scuro contrasting stitching.

The interior will get a bit of CF, namely the Racing Package and upper tunnel trim. I'm going with the yellow tach to tie in with the Ferrari badge on the steering wheel.

The exterior gets the CF rear moulding. Wheels are the diamond forged with yellow calipers to tie the center caps and shields together.

As far as paint is concerned:

I have seen and driven a 2012 458 in Grigio Silverstone and had the opportunity to view it both indoors under artificial lighting (dealer showroom) as well as outside on a nice bright sunny afternoon. I felt the color showed well and was pretty much ready to go with that as my paint choice.

Then I started kicking around the idea of Grigio Ferro. Downside there, besides the $11k upcharge and a bit of concern over potential future paint repair difficulties, is that I've not seen it in person. Truthfully the color rendering on Ferrari's configurator is horrible for most of the colors IMO, and I say this even when viewing on a 27" color calibrated monitor.

So therein lies the problem. I know that I like the Silverstone but the Ferro has caught my eye and it would make for a bit more of a unique car I think. I'm hoping to see if any members here can post or PM me pictures of Grigio Ferro cars, preferably 458s naturally, so I could at least get a better sense of how the color looks. In a perfect world getting to see the color under a variety of lighting conditions such as sunny, overcast, dark etc. would be really appreciated and help with this choice.

Thanks in advance for any help on this one.

    Color is so highly subjective.

My view, get resale red, unless this is your third ferrari. This not for resale, but because it looks better in red. The second best option would be yellow. If you have done both those may be a gray might work for stealth purposes.

All the best. The hardest part will be the wait.

Red is definitely the best resale color. Anything after that is a debate. I would not put yellow second though. I would put black second.

Between the two, I think ferro looks too flat, Id get silverstone. Very classy. All business interior too. I like the racing seats. Well done!

I like both Ferro and Silverstone. I think Ferro has a very slight reddish tinge in certain lighting (as if it were rust) so I would not order it without seeing a Ferrari of any model done in Ferro in person.

I own an F430 done in Silverstone (or I should say my wife does). Being a metallic it lights up beautifully in sun or artificial lighting. It imparts a very high tech modern look, more formal than sporty. (Reds, yellow, white, and some blues come off as sporty). In dull light, like all metallics, it quiets down to a more subdued dark gray.

In the end it will be your personal decision and should be based on what you like.

Consider Grigio Titanio, too. It's a very nice color, basically a medium grey with a hint of blue. It's understated and classy, yet it still has some pop. My 430 is GT and people always tell me how much they like the color.

Also lower maintenance. My Cali is black. I ordered my spider in Titanio with black interior and white stitching. I expect it to look fabulous in the sun.

All of us know that the best color for a resale is Red.
But sometimes owners just want to choose the color which they likes and not which one the market like.

Grigio Silverstone is a very classy color and looks very good with yellow details.

    Have you considered Grigio Scurro/Medio?

    Good luck.

I have a 2013 Silverstone 458. I ordered it with the carbon fiber rear bumper and front wings. In hindsight I wouldn't have ordered the rear bumper. The contrast between the carbon fiber and Silverstone is not nearly as striking as on the reds, yellows, and whites.

I had a yellow tach in my 430 Scuderia. After reading the thread on tach colors I decided to order the black tach. It is much easier to read and I'm happy with the decision. I ordered the diamond finish rims, yellow shields and calipers. It seems that combo is pretty prevalent on the Silverstones.

Try to see live examples and in different lights, especially sunlight. Grigio Silverstone to my eyes in sunlight has a small tinge of green in it. Ferro has some red. Also consider Grigio Granito, which is a Maserati color that you can order on a 458 (don't know what the additional charge might be, if any). It's darker than Silverstone and quite good looking. It's a true grey, no other color tinge that I could detect.

Here is a buddy's 458 in Granito (with a variety of different people in or around the car). Also, these are not my pics but borrowed from the Nor Cal forum.

I've also included a pic of a 458 in Argento Nurburgring. This is not my car, either, but at least my pic. I think 458s look great in silver.

Finally, I'm very partial to Silverstone, as you can see in the last pic.

Thanks to all for the comments, ideas, thoughts and pictures. Funny how at this point in the process choosing the colors has become more difficult than just about any other aspect of the process.

Need4Spd - Thank you very much for all the pictures. I looked at the Maserati Grigio Granito a while back when I was tempted by a Gran Turismo MC in that color to get as a more family friendly (as in I can put my 13mo old son's car seat in back) daily driver. I like the color a lot but the paint to sample charge is $20k minimum plus the extra time for the 458 and at that point I think I might be tempted to go with a 3 layer paint if I were going to drop that money on paint.

Speaking of car seats - As I recall in reading through the 458 owner's manual the 458 is not suitable for installing a car seat. I seem to think that I read somewhere in the last couple of months that Ferrari was supposed to have a 458 compliant car seat available by end of summer. Did I imagine that or did anyone else read something along those lines?

    So back to colors:

I think going to the expense ($20k or more per my dealer as mentioned above) of painting to the Maserati color is not really an option. Same goes for the $20k+ charge for the triplo strato paint. The question now is whether I am good with the $11k upcharge to go to Grigio Ferro or possibly Canna di Fucile or do I stay within the standard range and select something from out of those. I am guessing that the upcharge paint colors rarely return much down the road in sale or trade value - is that the consensus?

So staying in the standard color palette I find myself leaning, in no particular order to:

    Grigio Silverstone
    Nero Daytona
    Rosso Corsa
    Giallo Modena

    In the upcharge colors:

    Grigio Ferro
    Canna di Fucile

In one sense the easy choice would be to go with Rosso Corsa - how wrong can one possibly go with red on a Ferrari after all. Nero Daytona and Giallo Modena too are relatively "safe" choices as well.

About the only good thing for the next couple of days is that I am stuck slaving over a contract and probably won't be able to get to the dealer until later in the week so in that regard I can still try to sort all this out.

I like the Silverstone a lot from the pics but for the 11k upgrade and a more rare color I would go with the Ferro. You are not spending the 20k for paint upgrade and not getting a standard color. You're somewhere in the middle and have a color that is rare and IMO will fit the car very well. Best of luck with whatever color you choose as in the end it will not change the awesome driving experience you will feel when you are behind the wheel.

If you are considering Giallo Modena you may also want to consider the 3 layer yellow as well.....just a thought

IMO if you go with Silverstone or a color in that family you can slip the rear CF....it gets lost in the color anyways....for me the CF only works on the "brighter" cars.....

Grigio Ferro and the colors in that family are the more mature color. They are sexy and beautiful but you would not catch a 20 year old in that color. Any color in that family and i blieve you can not go wrong. Now if you want to do some more head turning stick with the red or the white. Me personally I think the white looks amazing because you can blend the CF perfectly with it.

Excellent point re. the CF getting lost on the Silverstone. When I looked at one 2 weekends back I do recall now having to pay special note to that area to pick it up. Thanks for reminding me about that!

I think Grigio Ferro looks awesome, particularly with black or yellow accents. It looks like a fighter jet. Do it and post lots of pics!

A question re. the front suspension lifter:

My driveway will not present any issues so how useful in typical every day driving situations are you finding this option to be? Also, is this one of those options, along the lines of the badges, that will be looked for at resale/trade-in?

Thanks..narrowing things down and other than being a bit nervous about dropping the extra $11k on Grigio Ferro sight unseen I am feeling pretty good about my choices so far. Funny how this car started out with all sorts of CF and other stuff and the more I let it soak in the more I find myself moving towards a more straightforward car.

Thanks once again to everyone for weighing in.

The usefulness of the lifter depends on where you live. My area is quite hilly, and many parking lot entrances/exits have fairly steep curb breaks. I use the lifter quite often, and have scraped a couple of times (fortunately, just the bottom of the front license plate frame) on 3 occasions when I didn't use it. If I was in a place like Florida or Texas, I certainly wouldn't bother with it. OTOH, it is a "must have" items for some resale buyers.

As others have noted, you will not need a lifter on the 458 unless you are faced with a very sharply breaking driveway.

Once again advise seeing a Grigio Ferro on a Ferrari before you order. Worth the effort to find one and look at it.

CF is a matter of taste. I happen to prefer it in the interior in preference to bare metal on interior surfaces. Not so fond of it on the exterior.
