I find it rather strange that there are 2 color names on the paint code sticker on my 400i.

In addition, after checking the below links, and doing a search, I can't seem to find the numbers listed on my sticker anywhere.

I'm pretty sure the car is blu sera, but what the hell is "blu toubillou"?
I haven't found a referance to the second number "Color Code 364000000"
    Lastly, 133511. huh?

    Can anybody help here?

Well, Dave, here is what I can tell you. First, this paint code sticker does not look ANYTHING like what I would expect on a 400i of your vintage. My car (#049773) and all the other series IIs I have seen have a paint code sticker that looks like the one in the picture below. So, this is interesting to say the least.

Further, this sticker lists TWO colors, and this is weirder still. Now, there WAS a color in the sixties called "Blu Tourbillon" so maybe that is what they were trying to write with the first color. That would be an "out of range" but orderable color for your car. The bottom listing is for "Blu Sera", and that is an "in range" color for your car, of course. I can't explain why both are listed, but I think that the answer will lie in finding someone who can translate the bottom of the sticker, as it appears to me that the sticker is saying that the paint is Blu Tourbillon and something else (per ritocchi e riverniciature - perhaps this means dash and carpets or it was once two tone paint) is Blu Sera.

FWIW, from the photos it does appear to be Blu Sera, but you can't tell much from photos on a computer screen.

    Does this help?

Ah, ok some more information. Apparently, literally translated, the bottom of the paint code sticker (per ritocchi e riverniciature), literally translated, means "for pictures and repaint". Based on this, my guess is the car was either:

A)WAS originally Blu Tourbillon but repainted blu sera, at which point this sticker was affixed to note the change

B)IS Blu Tourbillon, but it turns out that this paint is a match for the later Blu Sera (i.e. only the name changed) and this sticker indicates to use Blu Sera for touch ups, etc.

    Hope this helps,

    Alex

I thought the same thing when I saw the sticker. Yet there is another Fchatter in the 400 section, can't remember who right now, that has the same sticker on his car.
I starting to think it was a special order color, but who knows.

    I bought this:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110112443346&rd=1,1
    but it was too dark.

I think I'm going to try:
    http://www.paintscratch.com/
and see what blu sera looks like. For $20 its worth a try.

FWIW your pictures do make your paint look slightly lighter / brighter than Blu Sera, but I assumed this was the lighting or my monitor...

    Its been an interesting morning.

This doesn't answer my question but it does speak to the originality of my car.

I just got off the phone with the original owner. He purchased the car new in Bologna, Italy and imported it himself. Interesting sidenote, every car (aston, lambo, Fcar, etc) this guy has bought has been blue/cream.

Anyway, if it was some special order color the dealer ordered it. But she's orginal.

    Dave,
My recommendation to you is to avoid buying paint without knowing it's source. If you are only going to use the paint for dabbbing and touching, it may br alright, but should not be used for spraying large areas for many reasons. If the colour of the paint that you purchased was too dark, then one of the reasons could be that all the metallics settled at the bottom of the can, therefore you need to shake and stir the paint very very well. Every little piece of metallic sitting at the bottom of the can makes a difference(assuming the paint you purchased is a metallic colour?) And with regards to those touch up sticks, colour matching is even a bigger issue. Your best bet is to go to a autobody shop that has a good painter with a good eye for colour. He should be able to mix you up a little bottle of touch up paint.

    Hi,
    Ritocchi means touch-ups
    Riverniciature means re-sprays or re-paints
    Verniciatura originale means original paint
IVI is likely the acronym for Industria Vernici Italiana or Italiane
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,

The end result of this question is that I'm not trying to respray the car.

I have a few very small nicks. This car is so nice I want to touch them up a bit.

    Hi everyone,
I also need a little help.
I was just at the Concorso Ferrari in Pasadena California yesterday with my 82 400i and the judges said that I was missing my color sticker.
Where should this be located and is Ebay the best place to find a replacement?
    Thanks for your help
