Image Unavailable, Please Login Trying to figure out the color of my 1980 308 GT4. The on line Glasurit charts don’t match up to this label in my trunk. Anyone know he’d to decode this label? Thanks Nino

Did you try looking at the various Salchi codes listed in the 308 section (for example) here and/or could you tell us the code as the picture is not too clear and the color you think your car might be

Well of course. Glasurit paints and Salchi are not the same (*); your car is in Salchi, NOT Glasurit, so you must search the Salchi range of paints; as said by Greyboxer above, should you be able to decipher the hand written coden, this would help...

(*) not to be drowned into too many details, but, essentially:
    - a color might have the same name in the two range of paints, but be in fact somewhat different (same name, different colors)
    - or the very same color might have one name in one range of paints, and another one in the other range (same color, different names).

You are well placed to know that finding today the exacts equivalents for the Salchi range of paints isn't exactly easy; nor is it for certain Glasurit colors of the eighties, by the way (Think, for instance, about the Blu Medio Met of the mid Eighties' Ferraris...)
Unfortunately, these manufacturers didn't give the classification of their paints in one of the usual paint colors systems (Federal Standard in the US; RAL in Germany; British Standard in the UK...or, even better than that, the Munsell)
And you might also end up with a car that was painted on a special order, with a color indeed from the range of paints of the manufacturer, but not in the range proposed by Ferrari.
    Some tips for paints here:

Did not change much from earlier years and my 78 308 GTS was the same color.

As said above, it is not the name that should be checked first, but the paint code and the paint manufacturer; then, as long as it is the same paint code, from the same paint manufacturer, well: it is the same color indeed.
The change from Glidden (Glidden Salchi) to Glasurit happened, if my memory serves me, etc...end 1980, about at the same time that the production for the 308 changed from carbed cars to injected cars. "Rosso Chiaro", which was the "standard red" for Glidden, was replaced by "Rosso Corsa", which was the standard red for Glasurit. Ironically, Rosso Chiaro, which means litterally "Light red", is darker than Rosso Corsa...
By the way, aren't the paints used by Ferrari manufactured by PPG these days?
