I just picked up my 308 from what was the better part of the year at the body shop. It was completely stripped to the bone and repainted. I took it to a car show today and as the sun came out. Little black dots started appearing under the paint all over the car. They are under the clear as the area over the dots is completly flat. Anyone have an idea what's happening? I know what the solution is. Strip and paint agian.

    Thanks
    Rick

Sounds like paint contamination, for sure....hard to say the agent, but grinding specks from adjacent work is always a prime suspect....bummer.

    Take it back fo' sure....

I have a white trans Am so when I find rust flecks on a plastic bumper....well, it's a slam dunk!!

This is why I don't like a clear coat. Anything under the clear means all you can really do is (probably) strip and repaint. If it's been at the shop the whole time, then it's on them IMHO.

If there wasn't a clear, you could probably use a fine cut compound to polish out the black spots. This happend to me on my 66 corvette from rain spots. I polished them out and for the most part saved the paint.

    Sorry for your troubles.

I agree with bigtex. Can you feel these dots at all with your finger?
I like single stage too, but 2 stage is more forgiving. It depends on the experience of the painter if I would go with single stage.

I had taken the car back to fix a couple of areas that needed attention. They painted the underside of the read bonnet and appearently there was some overspray that made it's way to the outside body panels. It's funny that I didn't see any of the dots in the garage the night before. When I was at the show doing a final prep. I thought the sun was creating them. A little thinner and they wiped right off. I'm a few years older now, but it's funny.

    Cheers
