Does anyone know of any paint formulas for modern acrylic urethane paints that translate to late 50s, early 60s Ferrari colors?

    Hi Bob,

That's an interesting question for your first post. Also, you have an interesting car for a new member.

Anyway - to your question. I think the vintage colors aren't "automatically" available as acrylic urethane, but the modern paints can be formulated to duplicate the vintage colors. My 1969 365 GT 2+2 was originally Duracryl Acrylic Lacquer (Grigio Ortello color) by Italver which was bought by PPG a long time ago. I contacted the PPG Auto Color Library [ [email protected] ]. They had a sample of that lacquer color on file and used their spectrometer to scan the sample and create a formula for my color in PPG Concept 2K Urethane (DCC) paint system. They were really helpful. My restorer sent PPG a photo of my completed car and they sent a professional photographer visit me to photograph it for their 2009 calendar.

I don't know who originally made the paint you are trying to duplicate but the paint manufacturers are pretty flexible and accommodating.

    Good luck.
