I recently took delivery of my 488 and am looking through paint protection options. I previously used XPEL on my Speciale, which is nice, but rather pricey. I am wondering if anyone here has just used Modesta, Ceramic Pro, CQuartz, Gyeon, etc only with no film protection and seen good results for resistance against rock chipping, etc. Thanks guys.

I daily drive my car and use C-Quartz and it still looks good.

Heard Ceramic is good but need wrap in front still...thoughts? I heard Ceramics still pricy and you need to wait.

I've used Suntek / M3 films and C-Quartz for years with a lot of ReLoad on the weekends with great results.

I have someone that is referring Suntek to me; I don't have any experience with that brand.

Suntek and Xpel are going to be the most commonly referred choices. Both are great films and will serve your purpose just fine. Personally, I like to use Suntek on the larger panels, such as hoods, doors, etc. and Xpel on the high impact areas. The reason for this is becuase Suntek has much less orange peel effect and gives the car an amazing gloss on its own. We typically apply Xpel to the high impact areas as we have seen it stand up a little better with heavy hits. Both films can be penetrated with a large enough object, but I HIGHLY recommend covering the front of your 488 as quickly as possible to avoid any future damage.

The paint on these Ferraris can be soft and can get peppered with rock chips rather quickly depending on the environment you drive in. Here in Florida, we see cars with less than 1000 miles and already have some light damage.

As far as the coatings go, we use Cquartz Finest and Gtechniq Crystal Serum. Both provide amazing protection for the rest of your car(wont stop rock chips though) and ease of maintenance is a huge benefit as well. We do our paint correction before any film is applied to the vehicle, the film is then applied and we apply the ceramic coating of choice to the entire car, including the clear bra. If you have any questions about the products or processes, feel free to reach out to me. I can also try to point you in the right direction of someone local to you. Enjoy your 488, its a gorgeous car!

So, the claims that the coatings are scratch, rock chip resistant are false?

Rock chip resistant, absolutely. If you want rock chip protection, you need a film like Xpel or Suntek.

Scratch resistant..they do have some abilities, but you can certainly ruin your finish with improper care or materials. We educate all of our clients on how to properly care for the finish, or we have them come back to us for their washes. With the proper care, you can keep a nearly scratch free finish for several years. Jasone can attest to that!

How much coverage do you suggest for xpel? Total car?

That really just depends on how car crazy you are! We do have some clients who cover the entire car. Most people do the entire front (full hood, full fenders, bumper, headlight, mirrors), rocker panels and rear bumper guards just behind the wheels. However, its a completely custom process, so you can choose the areas you wish to cover and which areas you can live without covering.

can you send me a quote of what that would cost? And what a total xpel would cost?

I can attest that Billy does great customer education on how to care for your finish and that it is possible to keep a car 100% swirl free for years if you follow his methods :)
