Hi all, My wife has decided that the, um, patina on her '76 450SL is no longer for her, so she wants to get the car repainted. I'm looking for a bare metal respray (doesn't that sound filthy?) but not a full restoration. The body shows a few rust spots but otherwise is fine. Most of the chrome is OK and the rubber - remarkably - also seems intact. The seats aren't that bad - they wore sheepskin covers for many years - but definitely show wear. The paint, though, has had it. Unless the price is batsh!t crazy I'm willing to pay for a high-end paint job. I'll also need a leather guy at some point. I'm in Morris County but can take the car wherever. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Ron
Ron. Talk to Mike Franz at Delphais Collision. 610-431-1660. Tell him Dave with the Dino sent you. He did a fantastic job on my Dino, and can also get the interior done for you too. Not the cheapest guy in town, but not the highest priced either, and he's one stop shopping. He's in suburban Philadelphia and will do an outstanding job for you. He's worked on three of my cars now, and each was done to perfection. I guess I can't say enough good stuff about him. Oh, and he picks up and delivers with a flatbed, if you so desire. Dave M.
I'll post them tomorrow from work, but, there's a thread in the Dino section follows the restoration/paint job. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=135450960#post135450960 final pix here http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135734540&postcount=127
There was significant rust. That added about $8K to the repair bill. You can tell from some of the pictures. We also fixed some of the seams (including the door lines) so they looked better, put on new badges as necessary, touched up the interior including painting the headliner (worked great). We did a bare metal, all rust repaired, glass out, fix everything, all new rubber, takes five months, delivered exactly when promised job and it cost about... $24K. PM me of you'd like serious details. Dave
Call Dan @ County Auto Body. They are located in Sparkill New York, just on the boarder of Bergen County. It has always been a father & son business until the fathers recent passing. The son is very anal. They specialize on ground-ups on Vettes and Mercedes-Benz. Currently Dan is doing a body off on a 1969 Hemi Charger. He isnt cheap, but if you want perfection and no stories, this is your place. The number is 845-359-4565. Christopher
For the leather/interior: Montclair Auto Top. They did the seats for my 308 a couple of months ago. Outstanding. They have been around forever and do 100 point concours show cars. They can do whatever you want. Not cheap, but excellent.
