Paint work on 80’s Ferraris in this case a 90 Black TR. Can areas be sprayed and blended by some skilled painters? How easy is the paint to work with and what kind of paint is it? One section in a Black 90 TR that I am looking at that looks like a big dig was taken out of it and then touched up pretty bad. I have some amazing paint guys that work on boats and spray and touch up all the time and they asked me. What type of paint? How easy is it to paint and blend then wet sand and blend? Any ideas on this would be helpful as I am not sure.

    Andrew Kelley.

May or may not be of help....

I have some spots to touch up on my 66 corvette, which had been resprayed in the 80's with single stage laquer. They gave me a eurathane based single stage and said there shouldn't be any problem with the blending/compatipility. I have yet to do the job, so I don't know about the real world results.

Anyway, my overall point is that the 66 and my 80 GTSi which were both done in 80's are single stage and it appears there are modern products that can be use on/over the old single stage laquers.

    Good luck

I have a black metallic 328. Ferrari used Glasurit paints in that era, IIRC, and they respray and touch up fine (mine has clear coat). (If anything, the repray will probably be better than the original paint job...)

The best thing to do is respray the panel up to a natural seam and not try to blend it in the middle of a panel, per my body/paint guy. A partial panel respray might not be as satisfactory.
