waiting for my copy of "Ferrari in camera", here are today's additions to my palawan books (small) collection: Image Unavailable, Please Login DBD3S is #416 (of 1000), Racing through Europe is #232 (of 750).
Depending on the time it will take, the planned price increases for subsequent copies may not even cover the inflation rates... The DB3 S book was published in 1996 (btw, I'm very happy with it).
Just ordered the new Alpine book, which will be available from Friday, 15th Nov., on, and which is, I think, a fine book: https://www.palawan.co.uk/product/alpine-french-speed-spirit-standard-edition/
Although it was announced on November 13 that it would be available on November 15, now it is suddenly re-scheduled to be available on December 5. Looking forward to get it. Looks really promising on the website.
Just ordered this Alpine book - obviously it will include the more recent information, but I wonder how it will complement the below book that I've been owning for more than 40 years Image Unavailable, Please Login
Without knowing the old book, I would suspect that the former book is technically more detailed and data-driven than the new Palawan book, which can be expected to be lavishly illustrated and produced while providing a good overview of Alpine history. And it will take some effort to promote the new EV generation of Alpine cars.
With 415 pages, the old book is pretty extensive indeed, describing all models up to 1981 (A310 V6) and listing all competition results from 1960 to 1980. It has lots of black and white pictures and two sets of 24 pages of color pictures.
A familiar MO (Modus Operandi) for Monsieur Pascal. Thank you for reminding me of the fact that I had his Ferraris at Le Mans when I was in college. I found it to be exactly as you described his Alpine book. An exhaustive edition and a great resource for learning about that chapter in history.
I don't know either book (yet), but I know Palawan Press' Aston Martin V8 + Register, also by Russell Hayes, which are as comprehensive as books come.
Got it today. Just flicked through it. Looks top-notch. Just as expected from Palawan. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
But it is considerably smaller in size than all other Palawan books! Got my copy today and was rather terrified at the small size. I had expected something in the league of Silver Steeds or Aston Martin V8, but compared to these it appears rather as a handy book to be taken with you on travelling!
Other than page count, 'Klemantaski Himself', 'Dick & George', 'Drive On!', 'Bentley Continental Saloon', and 'Alpine' are identical in size. All excellent traveling companions, provided you do not fly commercial.
I’d say it’s just about the right size. As books are getting larger and larger I have trouble fitting them in my bookcase and reading them is only possible with the book on a table. It’s not a small book by any measure and with almost 500 pages it has some weight to it. And in the description on the Palawan website the size of the book is disclosed
I received the Alpine book (#69 of 500) today - at first glance it looks nice; I just checked the bibliography to see it does not mention my old book (post #110) so maybe there won't be too much overlap The bibliography does not mention anything before 1990, so probably my book (published in 1982) was just too old to be noticed. It doesn’t mention the German title "Blau gewinnt" from I think 2008 either. What bothers me is that I guess 70 to 80 per cent of the captions give credit to "Renault Communication". So, there is a lot of seen-before stuff in the book. For example, although I am not a Renault expert, I have seen many of the Renault 5 Turbo (my favourite Renault) pics before. Together with the unusually small format (compared to Palawan standards) for me the book is disappointing - and up for resale in new condition if anyone is interested (DM me). It's no. 310

Does anyone have updates about "The Aston Martin Project GT Racing Cars"? The Christmas tentative deadline has obviously been missed, but the actual meaning of "as soon as possible in 2025" is still unclear. I think it's been available for pre-order for more than 4 months; I placed my order (and sent payment, btw ) on Sept 20th.
