The had one guy in the front selling cliche framed prints like a naked woman on a scooter The artist tent is long gone my friend No other vendors that I saw.
I surprised Diane on her birthday one year when she was browsing Ken Dallison’s booth and discovered the portrait of her I commissioned.
To your point - from the vid: "I'm not too sure what this is, it's kind of like a 275 body with a 250 GTO front end and headlights so I don't know what to tell you guys, but it's 'pretty cool'...."
I just want to make it clear I’m not bashing them. At least they are into cars. It’s like I said yesterday at the event. Our generation came to know Ferrari from a love of racing and or design, engineering, etc. This new generation discovered Ferrari thru video games, movies, social media, etc. For them it’s all about $$$, performance, exclusivity, etc.
Yeah but they could at least do their homework to know what the hell they're looking at. Ah but that may require a book and they never learned how to turn pages, only to swipe their i-phones left... never mind.
I agree. I’m just holding out hope they do just that. So much great info out there at their fingertips. I’m hoping they eventually dig deeper and see it’s more than just a status symbol.
Thanks for the insight. I would agree, this event is definitely not worth nearly $500 to get in. I would gladly pay that money for a higher caliber event like Quail, that has a beautifully curated and wide variety of cars on display, in addition to parking/shuttles and complimentary food and (limited) booze included in the ticket price. But this event, you have to do everything a la carte. Would I pay that much for this event? Absolutely not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I understand the sentiment about ticket pricing, but in a way it’s that pricing that helps keep the crowds lighter and I suspect all of us appreciate being to get around and photograph cars without the droves of people. Now I also believe firmly that enthusiasts should participate too so perhaps the price throttling needs to be done in conjunction with a large discount for Ferrari owners or club members, this way both components can be balanced against the overcrowding.
You mirror my thoughts. One person in attendance I know was a man who is one of the members for the Best of the Best selection committee. He was there I am told because of their concern of the direction the event is going. With the increase in focus on the modern and the decrease in focus on history it is something many have predicted.
There was nowhere on the field to get even a water. In years past there wee mini bars on the field. Hot day, many were thirsty.
If Best of the Best is concerned about what’s going on with Cavallino then I guess that supports the opinion of many others. If Cavallino loses the cachet of being part of TBOTB then it’ll become just another car show. Too bad because I think it’s the only single marque event to be part of that group. Big prestige hit for Ferrari……those unintended consequences bite hard.
I honestly would have no problem with the pricing if the level of cars was proportionate. $480 to see some Enzos, F50's, etc.? No thanks! I will add that many collectors I spoke with were insulted that they were asking such a high amount to enter a car and then they were given only one entry ticket. If they wanted to bring their wife they and to purchase and extra ticket at $480. "Nickeled and dimed to death" came up more than once in conversation. Not many at all. The most I saw were hanging around the valet area. Lol, I think the youngest people there were the eye candy Canossa hired to work the gates, counters, etc.
Mostly a parade of the platinum winners with Max trying to be glib. He made many mistakes. It was cringy.
They could accomplish this by placing a cap on the number of tickets sold, but then that would reduce the take.
I believe ticket sales are capped. I bet sales numbers are closely guarded. If they sell out you can bet prices will go up.
If they put the bars back out on the field like John had that would fix it. I am sure, just like The Quail, the landlord exercises control of maximum attendance and in this case possibly the fire marshal, county commission, somebody. It has always been an Issue at The Quail.
Just like the Quail, the locals are very concerned about the impact on their community. Parking, traffic and noise chief among them.
I think I have to call BS on this statement. Last year I went to Cavallino and later in the year to Pebble/Casa Ferrari. They have ALL moved in the direction to monetize more (crowds + sponsors) and attract a younger audience. It is very hard to complain about one for any of these things and not have significant overlap with the others. I think it would be very fair for you to say you would pay the money for a better show at FCA Road America '24.
