I went to the first New York City Concours held at the Wolman Rink in Central Park, this past September. I really enjoyed the venue, and the terrifc display of cars for the first year. Many of the Ferraris in New York were at the Cavallino. Admission was around $40, snacks were available.

This past weekend, I attended all three days of the Cavallino, with the main concours being on Saturday. Admission was $50, and a decent lunch was available at the Breakers for under $20.

So today I went to the second or so Palm Beach Concours in Wellington, and needless to say, I was quite disappointed. Admission was $65, and the only food was a prepackaged $30 lunch. That was it. If it were not for many of the cars from the Cavallino appearing, this would be just another local car show. I hate to be negative, but I could not in good conscience recommend this event to anyone, unless you happen to be in town for the Cavallino, and consider the cost of attendance to be pocket change. Or you were attending the Gooding auction, which was another $50.

I would hate to think what the day would have been like if it had rained, and the field turned to mud. Maybe I am tainted by the quality of the other events I mentioned. But do the math, after Cavallino, this should have been a $35 admission at most, and there should have been refreshments that did not cost as much as lunch at a decent restaurant in Palm Beach. My grilled salmon lunch at Deco Saturday with drink and 20% tip was $30!

So to the promoter, this isn't close to being Pebble Beach, or even the Cavallino. And we are not in in the middle of Manhatten. Consider making this event more attendee friendly. I do not see this event lasting more than another year at this rate.

There were a dozen or so other interesting cars, and by interesting, I mean cars that you would not normally see on display. Even at something like the R&M Boca auction.

So startig with the obligatory FXX photos, here are some of the more interesting cars:

    Again, great pics, Ron!

Can anyone identify the cars in the 11th and 12th pics down in the second set? I think the first is a Delahaye, and the second looks like a Scarab?

The yellow and red Porsche 908 and 917K are / were owned by Mike Amalfitano. I'd know those cars anywhere.
