What's the deal with the car in the opening shot of this ad? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc-ZmDs5euo Looks like an early Pre-A 356 coupe, but it's wearing plate number "T 2222" - a plate that was and is worn by the streamlined Type 64. Is there supposed to be some significance to this? One would imagine that, since the VO is talking about Ferry Porsche building the car of his dreams over 60 years ago, that they would start off with the first Porsche - which car this is exactly is debatable. The first road car (356-001, "Number 1") would have made sense, though. This isn't it, of course. Maybe this is supposed to be the first production 356? First coupe? Anybody know? Austrian license plates ran with the owner "back in the day". They could be switched from car to car. The car in the ad is a Gmund coupe not a 356 (or pre-a as they are popularly mislabeled these days). The car in the ad belonged to Otto Mathe as did the type 64. Here is a period picture of one of Otto Mathe's Gmund coupes (he had two) wearing the plate T 2222. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Several of the cars used in the shoot belong to Jerry Seinfeld (who was present when the piece was filmed) and it appears that this Gmünd coupe is also his: chassis no. 356/2-040. http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/chassisNum.aspx?carID=8975&iDNumID=1543
