Is it really true that VW plans to kill off the Panamera? Do peopl ethink this is likely to happen? It would seem really stupid to announce that at the launch of the car...it would certainly scare me away as a customer..thinking there won't be long term support for your car.
Panamera's demise was rumored a month or so ago, and as far as I've heard, it remains a rumor. The rumor also said it is to have a 7 year run.
Correct. Panamera will not have a replacement when the current car is phased out (in 7 years). Cayenne will also have no replacement for the upcoming (2010) new model. So ,Porsche will have a sedan and an SUV for another 7 years or so,then it will be back to sports cars exclusively.
What are the sources behind these rumours? I like them, but just wanted to know where they origin from (Porsche employees or speculators?).
Amazing...why would they "leak" that info to the press. As I see it, it can only hurt the sales of the current models thinking that they will become dinosaurs someday, and no factory support going forward. If I was toying with the idea of buying a Panamera now I would definitely buy a Maserati QP (which is what I would do anyway...).
We have a white one on the lot. Looks like a squished Cayenne or stretched 911 limo to me. Prefer sportscars w/ only 2 doors and 2 seats.
Autobild magazine (German, I think). They are known for rumors, just as many are false as real, and they are not embarrassed by being wrong. In seven years, many things change in the automobile industry and the general economy. There's time in there to change your mind and still bring out another generation. Or not. With the planned merger of Volkswagen and Porsche, some models may become redundant and need to be dropped. It's going to be a huge automobile company.
It needs 930 looking rear flared fenders and some sort of wing... It looks like the 996's 4 door relative.
