OK, I'll admit I am easily comfused...but these panasonic cameras take the cake...ZS vs ZR what is the difference? There are many such nomenclature issues that are similarly confusing. Would somebody please tell me how to distinguish one from the other...especially when they carry the same price...the specs read the same...but there must be some difference or there would not be a different model number...looking for a simple, easy to use digitap point and shoot camera in the 300 buck range...the zs1 has been recommended...but need to buy from Dell (long story, don't ask) and they only carry the zr1...so what is the difference?

Thanks, but it begs the question of what the R and S stand for...additionally, it would seem that ZR1 should be compared to ZS1 vice ZS3.... I have done the ZS Vs ZR search and came up with nothing.

    I'm asking

    The ZS1 has 12x zoom.
    The ZR1 has 8x zoom.
The ZR3 has 12x and good HD video.

They all perform good outdoors but suffer indoors due to poor flash. Also none have manual controls.

    as per this thread http://forums.steves-digicams.com/what-camera-should-i-buy/163155-more-research-leads-more-confusion-help.html

I'd say both steves digicams and dpreview are the best sites on the net when it comes to cameras.

For me, the lack of manual controls is likely a plus. The Dell thing is complicated and not important except that they don't carry the entire Panasonic line. The real issue for me is idiot proof and ease of use...I want decent pictures both inside and outside...the Panasonic line has been recommended to me and the one I played with at the store seemed easy enough to deal with.

My real issue with Panasonic is I can't tell from the model numbers the pecking order...I presume the 3's are supposed to be a step above the 1's, but that is ALL I can discern...ZS vs ZR etc...

Well, I read every review I could find...I am as confused as before...all seem to address things that are not important to me...I think I will just buy a 20 buck drugstore camera...its a real pity when the jargon and minutiae gets in the way of basic information.
