A friend was admiring my 42mm Panerai 537 and interested in finding a new one, are there reputable grey market shops these days as an alternative to the authorized dealers? I saved a few thousand that way when I bought it a few years ago but I imagine the watch market is as upheaved as everything else seems to be. They are $9100 list on Panerai’s site.

I can try to get you a quote next week but unfortunately my Panerai sources have dried up a bit since I don't get many calls for them and their corporate overlord has really clamped down on the gray market discounts recently.

Best search on Chrono24, WatchBox and so forth. You will find one probably. Eddie on this forum at Modern Swiss is great to do business with. I just got a Sea Dweller from him. Had it in my hands the next day!

Just be sure the place on Chrono24 you are buying from actually has it.

Example...I am looking to get a new Panerai Submersible 47mm..1305 or 1389 and I find them but not much less than an Authorized Dealer.

I have run into a few dealers on Chrono24 that do not have the watch in stock. They just show stock photo's and when I ask for actual watch photo's, box papers etc and to find out cost for overnight shipping they tell me things like "the watch is in Switzerland at my other place"...and they get nasty if you ask any questions or do not buy the watch from them. So with that in mind STAY AWAY from a guy on Chrono24 called Swiss Watches Inc in Sunny Isles FL (Miami).

That's very common on Chrono24 unfortunately, many dealers will post a generic pic and say they have it in stock. In some cases they know they can source it for x% off and list it for x% off plus whatever profit they want. In other cases they just list it for higher hoping they can find it. That personally annoys me as it messes up the market and is just a ****ty thing to do overall.

Annoys me to no end. Plus they will list a 2021 Panerai 1305 or 1389 with the old incorrect dials…very confusing if you bought one of these what watch you’d actually get. I’d message these dealers and explain the dial difference on a 2021 which they are advertising the watch as and ask for actual photos and I would get nonsensical replies leaning towards nasty down putting reply’s. Jeez…

I thought Chrono24 was a cool with outstanding policed dealers. I’m heading to my local dealer on Sunday or Monday and just pay retail get the 8 year warranty and not deal with Chrono24 BS
