I am a paneristi and currently have a Radiomir 183G Black Seal. I am looking to add another Panerai and am thinking about a Luminor automatic or one of the Ferrari watches to celebrate the arrival of my 328!

Any thoughts on the FER watches and any comparison to adding a PAM instead?

I haven't seen many of the FER watches in person although I hear that they are not selling very well. Do you think the FER watches will not retain their value in the future as much as the regular PAM's?

    Hey Robb,
    Fellow Denver Risti here.

I bought my 176 a few years ago for two reasons. I wanted manual wind and loved the muted look of Ti. I bought it as a daily driver and it brings a smile to my face every time I look at it. Would I be as happy with a more collectible Panerai? Absolutely not. The fact I am able to wear it every day, to me, far outweighs future value.

So far, the collectible Panerai are the models you can't get. The 249 and 292 come to mind. The pieces with in-house movements are also a safe bet. To the hard-core Panerai fans, the FER line is to Panerai as the Dino was to Ferrari. Right now, it's an unclaimed sibling, that may change if the line gets discontinued.

big movers like Panerai's, in my mind this watch is still for a select group. As for value, Ferrari watches are being discounted and who knows what the future will bring, in most cases Ferrari watch collectability has been a hard sell. As for Panerai, used prices are holding strong but with another 7% price increase coming in Sept. on new watches I think we will see them sitting in the cases a little longer and discounting may be in the future, 5K for a manual wind SS watch is pushing it.

    Hi Robb

    fellow OHIO Risti here
I agree with the previous post about the 249 and the 292
Id also consider the 232 as well as the 26

Depending on $ you could also look at the older T dial Panerais..........

Good to see a fellow Paneristi here :), IMHO the Vintage, Pre-Vs, Pre-As and As is what Panerai is all about, although the entry ticket to them is becoming quite high the satisfaction you get from these babies strapped to your wrist is priceless.

Funny how we are wired similarly to come to like the F-cars and panerai...

I will probably by-pass the FER watches and pick up a PAM. Love the Ti and because I already have a manual wind black seal, would love an automatic luminar.

I am a daily wear guy as well. I swap for a momo design gmt in titanium when I am headed for wet weather, watersports, or out of the country. Matches my 328's steering wheel...

I went thru a similar dillema numerous times over the past 2 years. I've since bought at 177, 111 and a 253 Regatta Flyback, and never looked back. It seems that the Ferrari Pams are readily available, but I had to wait and order each other watch individually, waited 4 months for the 177. That speaks volumes to me. I'd pass on the Ferrari watch and get the pitcrew watch from ferraristore.com.

    Michael,

Thanks for your thoughts. I saw the pitcrew watches in italy last May but the cost seemed very high for the quality of the watch given the euro/dollar exchange rate. We'll see. Will likely concentrate on a traditional luminor automatic in ti.

I wear a 2001 40mm Panerai Auto Chrono...not sure about the model number....grey dial with silver sub dials. Pretty limited from what I understand and everybody that knows about Panerai is compliments it.

So my vote would be PAM!

    Hi everybody...nice to see you.

At present the Ferrari pieces have been very slow to move off the dealers shelves. On Monday I received an inventory sheet of how many we available in NY and it was a sad story.

For enjoyment, possible investment or at least retention of price paid...the Panerai model, when careful chosen will always be a better value.

Are you looking for Historic? Contemporary? 44mm 45mm or 47mm....New....or maybe a Neo Vintage......a watch that is no longer being made yet it has held it value as it was one of the models that got the brand kick started.

Once you decide on these points there are many guys here who will have some interesting thoughts and pictures.

    Thank you

    Elliot

It depends on why you buy a watch. Do you buy what appeals to you or do you buy just based on resale. Who knows what the future holds for Panerai Ferrari watches. I personally do not care if it holds value in the future. They are great watches but lack the historical appearance of the PAMs. Out of 20 PAMs I get more comments on the yellow dial Ferrari watch. I like it and have no intentions on flipping it. In the end buy what you like but comparing it to the pit crew watch is a stretch. If you want good resale stick with historical PAMs or LEs.

I don't buy watches as investments, but I try to buy things that hold their value because of their high quality. That way, I am more likely to appreciate them, there are likely fewer of them out there, and I'll be less likely to sell them later. But it is nice to know that they will not go down in value that much. Just like many classic F-cars.

I have a Radiomir black seal 183G and really love the watch. It is what I would call dressier than a Luminor. So I am looking to add a traditional PAM with the crown protector in a 44mm size that can be dressed way up or down depending on the occassion.

I was interested in the FER watches because of just acquiring my first F-car. I think that the Ferrari watches by Panerai are very nice looking and well made just like other PAM's. But after reading through everyone's posts and talking to dealers about the glut that they have in their stores, I think those watches will come and go quicker than the traditional Luminor's. Maybe they made a mistake by not having some kind of Panerai logo on the front face?

I'll get some photos up after I pick up the winner later this year.

    Thanks.

    Robb
