Heard this car had just come up for sale a couple of weeks ago. Emailed the owner on Mon 6th for details and again on tues to ascertain its location so I could fly over to view. Yesterday he mails me to tell me its sold! Took only two weeks and it was only advertised on his club website!!
I would love one of these, beautiful beautiful piece of kit, would have looked good in my garage beside the GT5S

The Si is one of my all time favorite cars in the world. I love how it is an evolution of a Pantera, but still identifiable as a Pantera without being told (like what Porsche has done with the 911 for 40+ years). This is how I hope to see the Pantera evolve, and I do believe that one day the DeTomaso name will rise again. If Spyker can, anyone can! Now only if Santiago DeTomaso would come to his senses and sell the company at a reasonable price.

I've got a magazine somewhere that has a prototype Si, tested in England, with two turbos (or was it superchargers?) slapped on the 302, and they said it was the fastest damned thing they'd ever tested.

I think it is 41 produced--including 2 crash tested, and one at the DeTomaso museum that has now been sold to the general market, leaving 39 out there. Some people say they doubt that number though, that they've never been able to find half of those cars. But not being able to find them doesn't mean they don't exist. None were USDOT compliant, so I assume they are all in Europe, though there might be one in Australia, can't remember.

Good luck getting one into the counrtry unless you are connected. David Adler of PI tried to get one in a few years back and the feds were not having it. They said there are Panteras here you can buy.

I am sure if you have enough cash and contacts anything is possible.

Pat M on the east coast will build you a clone for around the same price. Just FYI.

    Miss my Pantera some.

  8. Any idea how much the car was or a ballpark figure? I have seen a light blue one in some older magazines, but that has been it.

The car you are referring to was known as the Pantera 200, referring to its top speed, developed by UK importers Emilia, it was a twin turbo, developed 480bhp and a huge 580ft/lb torque. the motor was developed by Ford SVO in the US and was enlarged to 5.7Lit with new crank, cams, pistons, conrods etc. It was pretty well engineered to be very understressed, with the turbos running just 7 psi boost. There was only one ever made as Emilia done a very bad kob of selling it, they are primarily a race car outfit based in Silverstone. Until recently that car remained in storage at the house of Emilia owner Dick Puxty. We could never get him to say who exactly owned it or if it was for sale! However 6 months ago it left the UK, it was apparently bought by the son of a wealthy Danish businessman, who did not want his family to know as it might endanger his inheritance! So he left it in storage for over 10 years, and has now taken it back to Denmark.
The factory figure for Si production is 38 cars, but its probably more like 25 to 30.
This car sold for 70k Euro, an absolute bargain and had only some minor damage to the decklid from being slammed shut and the bonnet when someone tried to steal the badge.
here are some more pics the seller sent me when I was enquiring.

They were both designed by Gandini in the same time period, so I see the similarities, in the ground effects, and the fenders (the Pantera had wide fenders since the 80's though). Other than that, they look quite different.

There's also the treatment at the base of the windshield.
It's a very similar treatment given to two different looking cars.
I guess Detomaso got a 2 for 1 deal at the time.

    I'm with you on this.
Too many different design elements pulling at each other.
Seemed like a last gasp attempt to keep the Pantera around.
It was/is an excellent design from the get go, no need to tart it up.

I would have to disagree with you guys, the Si is one of those cars that looks awesome in the flesh and sometimes does not photograph too well especially in bright colours. The spoiler at the base of the windscreen is a bit ugly but very beneficial to the effectiveness of the screen wipers, eliminating blade lift at speed and reducing the amount of water falling on the screen. The rear spoiler bumper assembly as well as providing dwonforce also actively pulls air through the engine bay. The chassis is completely redesigned with new front and rear subframes, new suspension with wider track and brilliant brembo brake system as on the F40. Have a look at this youtube video which has a black Si half way through.
