well, this is going to be a long post, but here's what i have so far:
The Porsche 959 is a super car built by Porsche between 1986 and 1988. There are approximately 30 of these notorious cars in the United States, 2 owners including Microsoft founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Not only is this car is illegal to drive on the road in the United States, it was originally impossible to import these pieces of automobile artwork into the country. That all changed due to the help of one man, Bill Gates. Bill Clinton signed legislation, allowing the Microsoft founder to legally import his 959 into the states, and to take it one step further, Gates is allowed to drive his on the open road. It must be nice being the wealthiest man in the world. William Henry Gates the third is arguably one of the most powerful and influential men in the world. Being a billionaire has its perks, some in your lifestyle, some in your business ventures, and without a doubt some in your political life. Mr. Gates could easily influence a politician’s view on a certain issue, because being able to influence with money is by far a defining characteristic in government. In this paper, I intend to show that Bill Gates has political power through his money, Microsoft, and with his fame and knowledge.
Some say that money is the root of all evil. Some say that money is the key to one’s salvation. Or, one of my favorite quotes, from Tony Montana in Scarface: “In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women.” I don’t know to what extent Bill Gates’ money helped him in getting the women, but I believe that his other two points are incredibly valid. First you get the money, than you get the power. It may be sad, however in our culture you don’t see very many poor people being able to convince their congressmen or senators to pass certain legislation. According to forbes.com, Bill Gates is worth around 54 billion dollars. He is not only the wealthiest American, but he is the wealthiest person in the world. To explore how he has attained political power through money, it is important to know exactly where he has gotten his money from.
In 1975, William Henry Hates the third and longtime friend Paul Allen, both having a vast array of knowledge of the new and evolving computer, started Microsoft. Both believed that computers were the wave of the future, and felt that soon everyone will have one, not only in their homes, but offices as well. So, they decided to start developing software that would help in making the computer a vital tool that everyone could use. In 1980, IBM approached Gates about creating an operating system for their new “personal computer.” This is precisely the move that was about to make Bill Gates wealthier than anyone could have imagined. After a couple of meetings, Mr. Gates started work on his DOS computer system, which is what they used to run the early IBM computers. However, it wasn’t until after both Gates and Allen realized that people were trying to copy his programs that he licensed MS-DOS and began selling it to other computer manufacturers. Cha-ching! This is when Bill first started raking in the big bucks, and laughing all the way to the bank. Soon after DOS was released, Gates and his team of developers went back to work to make an operating system that was to be even better than its predecessor. Along came Microsoft Windows. I can almost guarantee you that any computer you might use will run off of a version of this operating system. It seems as though everyone except for my grandfather uses a computer, and I would venture to guess that at least 80% of the computers used are running off of one of Microsoft’s programs. This, coupled with Microsoft’s stock, which has soared since it’s IPO, has landed William Henry Gates the third into the position where he is today, the world’s wealthiest man.
If you want to run a successful presidential campaign, you should expect to need to raise at least 100 million dollars. That’s much more money than the average person will see in a lifetime. This means that Bill Gates can afford to run 540 presidential campaigns on his own dollar. Let’s take a look at the Elite form of government. This idea of government states that the country is run by approximately 7000 of the wealthiest people. This includes names such as Trump, Turner, Walton, and of course, Gates. Say the Walton family is unhappy with America’s immigration policy. All they have to do is go to Congress, the Senate, or even the president and say that if you don’t endorse legislation and pass it that favors us, we will pack up and move our business to China. All of a sudden, America is faced with an unbearable economic hardship, as one of their largest companies has just packed up and moved out. In which case, the voters won’t be too happy with the current members of the government, and re-election will be a tough case to fight. So, the government will attempt to do everything within its power to make Wal-Mart and the Walton’s happy. The same can be said for Microsoft. Already, as you can see, Bill Gates has a tremendous amount of power in the sense that he can pack up Microsoft and move if he’s unhappy with the American government.
Also, he has a large amount of power within government because he can afford to donate large sums of cash to whatever causes he feels right. For instance, one of his main goals is to see a computer in every classroom in America. Through both his foundation and by working with the government, his dream is shaping into a reality. Another example is that he recently pledged half a billion dollars to AIDS research. He has been pushing government officials for a while about continuing support for research for this deadly disease, and by having the amount of cash that he has, was able to make that dream a possibility. As you can see, Bill Gates has enough money to the point where he could just about pay the government to spearhead whatever project that he wants to endeavor in. Because of the wads of cash he has in his back pocket, Bill Gates has been able to achieve political power in the American government.
    Everybody knows Microsoft.

    While you're at it...

A small magnetic sample is in the form of a disk having a radius of 1.8 cm, a thickness of 0.3 cm, and a uniform magnetization along its axis throughout its volume. The magnetic moment of the sample is 1.8x10^-2 Axm^2. If the magnetization is along the axis of the disk, what is the magnitude of the amperian surface current?

Lots of opinions, cliches, etc. in there. Is it supposed to be so condensed without any actual information in it?

tip - ignore the car interest. throw out all your 'nice' and thoughtful quotes.

Are you concentrating on Bill Gates himself as having political influence through wealth? Or are you concentrating on Microsoft having political influence?

If the latter, you should look at the anti-trust suit which has been going on for years. Mainly, look up references to the people on the offensive, going against MS. There are stories out there about how MS pulled away the best of the best for the plaintiffs case by 'other companies' hiring them up. Thus, the government lacks a great offense. What do you have left? A long trial that goes no where. States frustrated with dollars going down the drain for nothing at all. Etc. etc.

Re think the focus. Rethink the outcome and work backwards if you want to retrace the steps.

You need to do more research.

IBM was originally headed to another company in California, I'll see if I can recall the name, but at any rate, the guy that ran this company in California had been trying to get his product to IBM for a few years, and he had all-but given up.

So IBM jumps on a plane, heads his way, they show up, and he is..... conveniently 'out of the office'. He was golfing (on purpose ?), and he figured 'screw them - they can wait on me for a few hours, I waited on them for years'.

IBM didn't wait - they jumped back on the plane and headed to Redmond.....

When they got there, Gates and Co. had some product, but they didn't have an OS they owned, but Bill knew of another guy in town that had something that would work, so he bought it overnight for like $50-75,000. Now he had his OS, and he could make his stuff all work together now.

And don't leave out the stuff about how Microsoft's products were all-but stolen from their competitors, such as Wordperfect, Foxpro, Lotus 1-2-3, and a few others.

This all relates to how he made his money, which led to political clout.

The first OS IBM skipped was CP/M, remember that ? How about DR/DOS ??

Also, google 'inventor of DOS', lots of history there.

    Also google 'inventer of cp/m'
