Had my 430 stick out yesterday and had to call AAA when the P brake wouldn't release the lever felt loose on release. AAA disconnected the cables from the calipers and off I went both sides were engaged. Any hints on where to start to trouble shoot?

Remove the caliper, very easy but you will need to cut an Allen wrench short to get to one of the 2 bolts holding it on. Once off the problem should b easy to find. I would check the cable that runs under the drivers side 1st. It's so did that both were locked.

I'll bet the cable is hung up somewhere which would explain why the handle felt loose on release. You can get to it by removing the mid rear undertray.

Correction- It's odd that both sides were locked- sorry spell check.

    Most likely that cable.

You probably need a new cable. I try not to use the parking brake and just leave my car in gear and then turn it off.

I always thought that leaving the car in gear is actually bad for the gearbox, and actually creates unnecessary stress, automatic cars make a weird noise when you select a gear from P everyime the car is not parked in a complete flat surface and the ebrake is not activated.
I'd rather change an ebrake cable than deal with a gearbox.

Have you recently changed to aftermarket headers? I installed AP headers and melted the ebrake cable three times before I figured out the problem. If your brake handle will not release with the cable disconnected at the caliper there is a good chance it melted then cooled and siezed the inner steel cable.

Did you have blankets or just ceramic coating?

You melted the ebrake three times when the headers were ceramic coated?
    And what was the solution?

I used thermal wrap tube and that seems to have fixed the problem at least for the last six months. I only use the ebrake when necessary like on a hill. I was able to free up one cable so now I have a spare.

Im in Chicago so for the most part its all flat land around here and when parked in gear there is no stress on the gearbox.

I believe one of the reasons the cable freezes is due to lack of use. Use it everytime to keep the two pieces from forming rust and freezing.

That makes sense. I'll start to use it once in a while, give it some movement. Thanks!
