You'd think they would validate parking if you spent x amount (dinner, shopping, ect.) for the locals.
I know the California Hotel (downtown) does. Am not sure I have heard a Strip casino that does that. We just got back from Vegas. As far as I can tell, free self-parking at the Paris...T
Well, I haven't heard that 'airport parking' theory, but I could see it being done a few times. I think airport parking is $25-30 a day. It would be a significant delay to park at a casino and take a shuttle though, at least an extra hour if not two. But this is a relatively cheap place to live, and until now 2mm people had free parking pretty much everywhere in the valley except the airport and the old downtown/Fremont area. And even then, 10 years ago there was very little paid parking even downtown, mostly just in the 2 block radius around the courthouses. The winners in this will be the nearby small plazas (i.e. along Flamingo, Spring Mountain) and malls (Fashion Show, Town Square) nearby that don't charge for parking. When I'm only spending $8-16 for a lunch, I am not going to pay to park to eat at a casino restaurant anymore. There are a handful of places that I used to frequent for lunch that I basically stopped going to once they started charging to park, or even made you pull a ticket and validate (Plaza, Main St. Station, Golden Nugget).
I have heard the airport parking justification a number of times, but I haven't known anyone to do it. Parking on the strip and then taking a shuttle just seems like such a pain in the ass to me. It really isn't onerous to drop off/pick up passengers here. Mark
Its just a matter of time before the Fashion Show will start charging for parking or at least setting up a validation system as there going to become the free parking lot for Wynn, Encore, Treasure Island, Palazzo, Venitian and Mirage.
Man, if people really are that cheap they won't spend $10 or whatever to park, maybe they shouldn't visit the casino.
Wynn throws in the towel. Encore and Wynn now charging parking starting Aug 7th, even for locals. Disgusting.
I drove through Vegas last month driving from Zion in Utah to Phoenix. We wanted to park at a casino and get some food and gamble a little as a break, but all we saw were a bunch of self-park garages that charged more than we expected. I was assuming it would be free or at least cheap since I was trying to go there to spend money...we said screw it. Drove to an In-n-out off the strip, ate, and left.
Sorry, I just saw into the near future. Somebody out there, maybe even reading this thread, will PAY to park their Ferrari SUV at LV casino. Its not about what people think, its about how much they spend!
What's the motivation, Mayor? Are gambling revenues down, and this is a supplemental revenue stream? Are gambling revenues great, and this is just squeezing the orange more, so to speak? This story says that 2016 was a record, so I think perhaps they're getting while the getting is good. https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2017/mar/14/las-vegas-sees-record-tourism-visitor-spending-in/ T
The first excuse came from MGM claiming that as they paid for the construction of Toshiba Arena themselves they needed to have paid parking so they could "upgrade it" (which they did). But they didn't just make it at NYNY and MonteCarlo. They decided that all their properties would start paid parking. For about 9 months, those who were local were exempt. Then, everyone had to pay. That started the chain reaction. Some claimed that people were parking in their free lots and going to the MGM properties and therefore they had to follow. Wynn now is claiming his new shopping mall and Paradise Lake will require paid parking or there won't be enough spaces. Part of this also is to give perks to Loyalty Card holders. Give them something for free now that they used to get for free but now have to pay for and Voila'-- instant benefit. The real reason is -- because they can. Hotel occupancy is at all time highs, the airport is breaking all records in passengers, gas is cheap, and people are spending more on food, drinks, shopping, and entertainment than gambling today. Its just free money. They claim its no different than going to Disneyland or any other entertainment venue. To maintain the parking and improve it they need people to use it to pay. While I have no problem with that, I don't see why locals can't be exempt. Imagine if Walmart asked people to pay to park there. I'm guessing a lot of local people would find a way to avoid it. Then there's this attitude that "Hey, if you're not willing to pay $12 to park here then we really don't want you anyway". There are still some that have not. Tropicanna, Circus Circus (the only MGM property not too), Mirage, Venetian, and SLS as well as all the off strip properties and downtown. I have no idea what the Fashion Mall will do now because you can park there for free (albeit at times its difficult to get a space) and walk across the bridge to Wynn.
Interesting. Thanks. My wife likes Caesars, so they comp her parking. Does anyone know if MGM loyalty program ( M Life?) gets compd parking at their properties? T
When Cosmo went paid parking, my brother was working for them as a financial analyst. The reason they caved was directly related to their lots being used by non-guests. The lots were filling up, but they didn't see any uptick in guests/food/bev/gambling/shopping. They tried to hold out, but it forced their hand. Paid guests were apparently unable to find parking, which wasn't sitting well. Mark
Do some of them at least have parking validation for people that want to go there for shopping or food?
Tom. i never have a car while in town. I think when MGM first announced paid parking, all their M Life card holders had an exemption. At first, they didn't charge locals either. I know platinum level on M Life doesn't pay to park. This is all part of the financial analytics people running everything. I long for the old days when the hotel people ran the hotel but gambling people ran the casinos. There are tons of examples, even for their best customers. Here's one I experienced. The suite I get included free limo airport pick up and drop off. Last year Bellagio eliminated that perk. Now, when i book through my VIP, I tell them I want the limo included and they do as a "one time exception". I've written before about "value pricing" menu, etc. They're going to wring a dime out of every square inch.
Ok, that's good to know. She's been looking at m life as MGM pairs with Royal Caribbean cruise line, which she prefers. Thanks, Keith...T
All that north-end of the strip business! Bwahahahahaha. I was just there yesterday afternoon, the Encore deck was half empty. Wynn really has no excuse. Mark
Let me get this right. The aim of this thread is to complain about a $10 a day to self park a car? We spend thousands on gambling shows food rooms, but $10 a day is not acceptable?
When you spend thousands on food/bev/hotel/gambling, they should eat the $10 parking fee. Think about it this way, if you want me to come spend thousands at your property, I shouldn't have to pay for the honor to do so. Mark
