Hi! I'll be stoping in South Beach on my way to Key West with my 05 360 spider. Can someone recommend a place where I can stay and park the car out front or some where besides a parking garage. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank You

    Bob

Most hotels, clubs or restaurants will have parking up front, just be ready to spend anywhere from $30 to $50 depending on the night and the valets mood.

On 7th between Collins and Washington there's a multi level, covered parking lot where I always park. Don't get there later than 10:00 PM or you'll be out of luck. There's also one on 13th Collins and Ocean Drive.I'd stay away from valets unless it's a rental or they're going to park it right in front of where you are sitting.

If you valet on Ocean make sure to keep the key to your car and plan only to be very close by. LIke park right in front of the place you want to eat and tell the valet that you will be right there. Coming early to get a table next to your car is key.

I was in SoBe a couple of weeks ago with the 355 and just left it parked out in front of some hotel all day and night. $30 seemed to be the amount everyone wanted for a spot right up front. Didn't have any problems with it either regarding vandals or shady characters. I can't think of many places I'd feel comfortable doing that at. The fact that an Enzo, Murci spider, Gallardo, 360 spider etc were all around me within a one block radius probably helped...

Dude.. Rick was already throwing the guy/girl ratio off. I had 8 to myself until he showed up ;) I don't think I could've handled any more imbalance. Next time though!

The Loews hotel is very nice & the Ritz is good too. If you want something a little quieter I always used to stay at the Marriot on Ocean away from the mobs. I parked my 512TR there and never had any problems

This is kind of interesting to me, I have been in the Miami area but never stayed directly in Miami. What exactly is so hot about South Beach ? I checked out a few of the hotles Delanio, Pelican, Colony, Segamor etc, They all seem to have $500+ a night room fee's. Looking at pictures of the rooms they were not very impressive compared to other hotels. ?

Anyone care to chime in what the real deal is with South Beach. ?

BTW, What is the name of this building. ?

SoBe is strange, its like a small town/International city all mashed together.

Its THE party spot in FL full of hotties from everywhere & there are tons of clubs all over washington & Ocean Dr

Its also wall to wall w Ferraris & exotics sometimes

SoBe is the hot spot because all the models and celebs are staying down there. Most of the good clubs are congested to a 4 street radius and it is good people watching. Traffic gets crazy, that is just the result of the fact it is the hot spot.

The building you are referring to is called Portofino and was built by Thomas Kramer in the 90s. A very very nice design. My wife had a unit listed there in the middle part of the building. Floor to ceiling glass all around and it was a two level unit. You would go down to the lower level for the media room and the bedroms.

Thanks for enlighting me, I should be back in Miami June/July I will check out SOBE to its fullest.

Martin the Portifino looks pretty nice inside and out. The gym on the 29th floor looks the best.

I can tell you were not to stay. Marriot South Beach, I just left there the other day. I arrived in my new spider, scraped the bottom on thire drive, 1st thing. I valeted the car, not even thinking that wouldn't leave it up front. I came out later, no Ferrari, I had to wait for it, then they could not get it started, so I had to go in the garge and get it my self. The room was nice, but over priced for what you get. I also stayed at the Plams, ok rooms, nicer grounds, cheper, and thay know how to park a Ferrari. FWIW

I did see a red spider out front when i was there. SoBe is a great place to hang out. I try to go at least twice a year. Lots to choose from, pick one and if you dont like it try another next time, because you will be back.

Yeah, seems like most of the hotels are more historial landmarks or works of art more then they are luxurious exotic hotels.

Next time in South Beach, the Victor Hotel is a real cool hotel that just opened. 1144 Ocean Drive.

If anyone has visited the Victor Hotel or the Waverly at South Beach 1330 West Ave (35 story condo; on the intracoastal) = I would love to hear your comments.

i have visited the waverly and think it is a true architectural marvel. it is so fascinating that i would place it in the same category as other architectural masterpieces like the sistine chapel and the acropolis.

as far as the victor hotel, i also regard that as a south floridalandmark. the design and vibe of that place take my breath away,.

who ever developed these 2 properties is to be commended. i wish i could be so lucky as to have someone like that as my business partner. i guess i'll just have to dream. :)

Funny thing about South Beach: I remember the way it used to be, when I lived in M.B. from 1968-1974. (I graduated from Beach High in '70.)

Back then, Ocean Drive was a very quiet street with rundown small hotels that were all residential places where, basically, elderly people, mostly Jewish, came to live out their last days. (P.S. I'm Jewish as well.) I never went down there after dark, but I'd bet you could have heard a pin drop.

Closer to Lincoln Road, the larger hotels like the Delano were still "conventional" hotels that had fallen on hard times and surely would have been demolished, along with their Ocean Drive counterparts, if not for the Art Deco movement. The Lincoln Road mall was a collection of dreary stores and, again, basically shut down at dusk.

How very different all the same hotels and their neighborhoods are now!

If you plan on going to South Beach, do the Ocean Drive cruise, then park you car in Coral Gables and take a cab to the Beach.
