So I followed the great instructions. I got the item to work but shortly after. It stopped again. I pulled it out and the little pin at the top of the lever arm broke off. It looked like someone had worked on it before me. I guess it was bent one too many times.

I have pics on my phone but can't figure out how to post. Any ideas where to get a new switch I saw one on Awitalian.com for a decent price. Any one work with them before.

    Thanks
I followed the instructions and got the switch out. It looked like someone had messed with it once before. I was was able to easily bend it back without taking the lever arm out of the body of the switch with two needle nose pliers. I reassembled and reinstalled. It worked once or twice and than broke again. I pulled it out and saw that the tip of the lever broke off!. Game over! I had taken pics along the way and when I looked back at the pics it looked like there was a small crack there. Maybe thats why it bent back so easily.

So Im looking for a new switch. Found a few and so far AW Auto parts AWitalian.com seems to have the best price and the item is NEW. Anyone have any experience with them?

I just wanted to say 'thank you' and how absolutely awesome this post is! I just got the car home yesterday and realized the parking lights were stuck 'on'. I found this post and 30 minutes later, the switch is working again and lights are off. Fun to repair and saved big $$$. Thanks Juri!

Reviving this thread ..not sure if the right thing to do

As many have experienced my parking switch popped and lights remain on
I purchased a new switch but wanted to fix the old one for future use but unfortunately the latch (detent lever) is broken

I attached the picture of the switch apart and lever

Anyone know of a source for such small parts etc

Hate to waste such a good switch for probably a 2 cent piece
    Any thoughts would be appreciated

the switch that will be an exact dup minus the green button is mtc 1110 or bmw 61311364525

You can change the button easily but unfortunately that switch is out of stock and not sure when it will be coming back
I ended up using a different switch from BMW - and removed the piece from it I needed for my 512tr

Being new to this forum I am forever grateful for information like this - having recently purchased a ‘91 Testarossa I am learning fast that my problems are by no means unique!
Posts like this ( esp with pics ) are priceless for DIY mechanics like myself

Oh my, I could have saved you all the trouble of opening the whole thing up.
Didn’t know a thread on this existed.
That lever is meant to be bent..
I guess cleaning up the old grease does help, but not necessary
The problem is the pin, looking from outside the switch, has moved outwards, and all that is needed is to tap it gently inwards again, until it stops.
I then put some nail polish enamel to seal the pin, and stop it from working itself out again.

On the 512TR, the bulb is lit .. that is, it’s connected.

I removed my switch and took it to pieces, straightened the lever and the switch is working again - switch illuminates green as well as the light on the dash :)

" and all that is needed is to tap it gently inwards again, until it stops " is interesting as the pin on my switch could only be tapped inwards to be fully removed then reinserted from the inside out
