Curious who else (if anybody) parks their Ferrari outside 24/7 for 365 days a year ? I say this as LA is experiencing a hell of a storm and I actually had to go cover it up (leaky windows).
My 328 is always parked in my shop a couple miles away. My garage is filled with 8 motorcycles, so my Infinity gets parked in the street. I live in a condo, garage and street parking only. Big G ( rain , can you please just go away, we have had enough of you for a couple of years. We dont need you or want you anymore )
My driveway here in LA is far too narrow to screw with plus I daily the car, although the garage could theoretically house 2 cars if I really needed it to, it does not. Our condo down in Venice has two covered spots but we are hardly ever there. So outside it sits. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Seriously, curious too. I have 4 other cars and a moto. I daily the Ferrari as much as humanly possible. Simply because it is the funnest and BEST by far PLUS fits my daughter (AND wife if needed) . Only way to roll in LA in my humble assessment.
Mines in the driveway for a few just because I need to clear up the garage from all the bikes and wife boxes. As soon as that’s done, it’s going into air conditioned garage and certainly before summer-in-the-valley hits. Easier said than done (the wife part), wish me luck. To each their own but I personally prioritize a house with a garage that I own and a daily driver amongst other investments before getting a Ferrari.
Who is to say one does not already own those things ? What does that have to do with parking a car outside ? Actually, I will agree with “no second vehicle, no Ferrari”. Just from a dead nuts reliability and time down stand-point (service, maintenance, parts procurement, etc…) you actually may REQUIRE a second car for kid drop off and/or work, etc…I do.
I'm with Drew on this one, but it's just another opinion not a mandate. Hey, it's your car and you can do what you want with it. Keep it outside, don't wash it, don't maintain it. Drive the s**t out of it (I like that part). I personally value my two cars, especially the Ferrari, enough to put 'em in the garage when I'm not driving them - the F430 for fun and the BMW for grocery runs and everything else. When you sell your Ferrari, I'm not sure how "Never Garaged" would appeal to prospective buyers.
Agreed value collector car insurance policies often require a locked garage or similar secure indoor storage. Mine does, anyway. Beyond that, cars left outdoors deteriorate faster, especially in LA where it's generally hot and sunny (I lived there for 15 years). Constant ultraviolet light makes for faded paint, leather shrinkage and fading, window gasket and tire degradation, etc. But to each, his own.
People have done it, but as this is a poll, I voted no. It’s an expensive car; it might not melt (well except some of the interior sticky bits), but excess UV and exposure to the elements doesn’t do it any favors. I’ll drive in rain, park it in the sun, all that stuff, but personally I wouldn’t store it outside.
So a person who owns a house with a garage, and has a daily driver, and has other investments, should not own his 2 Ferraris if they are kept outside? Just asking for a friend.
No way. I have full PPFs and still wouldn't do it. I am all for driving it and dealing with the wear and tear that comes from that (I typically put on average 3k a mile each year on four cars) but why incur needless wear by keeping it out side. sun, rain, rodents, idiot kids, etc. It shows a lack of care and, frankly, a lack of respect.
I left one of my BMWs outside for about six months because of garage space after my wife's Portofino M arrived.. I used a BMW provided cover. I ended up dealing with hard water spots (from rain) and some squirrels nesting in the engine bay. Glad I bought a second house on my street with four more garage spaces. This is in San Diego.
Agree. The sun, pollutants, and rain will gradually destroy the paint. If you have a leather dash and upholstery, add that to the tab. We’ll assume vandalism and theft isn’t a problem where you live. Any car you care about needs a garage. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Mine is kept in a heated garaged any time it’s not being driven. As others have already pointed out the elements are too rough on a car, especially a car I really care about.
Well there you go. Is anyone judging you? There are people here who not only garage their Ferrari, but it is in a heated garage.
I am currently leaving my 348 outside under a carport, but I would never leave it out in the sun here as it reaches 45c temps here and it would be 60c+ inside the car cooking all my interior and the paint. So it lives under the carport for now, but I may put it out the back in the garage again soon so it's nice and shaded.
And how many Platinos and Copa Bella Machinas have your Ferraris been awarded? Apparently no car not garged and is driven daily (and across country and across borders multiple times), neglected, and disrespected is certainly not deserving of the highest awards. Right?
