Hi everyone. I just bought a 2012 458 Italia in Florida. It has the optional front & rear parking sensors. They were working fine while I first started driving the car here in California. Then I took the car in for its first California smog test. The smog test guy seemed to do an okay job. He certainly didn't bump into anything when he drove the car into his shop. I watched closely the whole time. Afterward, I started the car and drove it away. Immediately, the front parking system began beeping continuously and showing a red alert at the center front. It has been doing this ever since - every time I stop. At a stop light with nothing in front of me. Parking with nothing within ten feet of me. Everywhere! I have to temporarily turn it off each time to keep from going crazy! I looked at the sensors on the bumper. They look okay. Nothing but red alerts, all the time. No green or yellow. Always the front center - this happens for no other location. Please help. Was it the smog test, or just a coincidence? What should I do? Any comments? Thanks very much in advance!
You unf. cannot have the parking sensors deactivated, even with a proprietary diagnostic tool. For deactivation you need a proxy file to be sent from Maranello which then needs to be uploaded and they kind of cringe to do this sort of thing, and even if proxy uploaded she might throw a 'system not programmed' code.
On the California T there is a button to turn off and on the parking sensor. It's on the console by the review mirror. Also if they started going off like crazy did you get mud or bug splat on a censor? Might walk around the car and clean censors and cameras. just an idea.
On the 458, there is a button in the panel above the rearview mirror to turn off the parking sensors.
Apologies if this is simply stating the obvious- but have you tried cleaning off the sensor? Maybe you have even some slight debris obstructing it... They can be finicky.
It could be from the smog check, but not likely. Sometimes after they run the diagnostics you can get all sorts of warning lights that will light up, but go away on there own. How many miles have you driven the car since the check? Some cars may take up to 100 miles. This is what I had to do on my BMW, though it wasn't anywhere near 100 miles. I know it's probably different for the Ferrari but figured I'd share. Hope you find the cause and get it all sorted out!
