In this situation the car started and ran, but several circuits did not work including the headlights and the instrument lights and could not find a blown fuse.

This is the second time it happened... the first time I went into the fuse box area and in the process of pocking around & looking for a bad fuse, the power came back on. After I got home I tried, but could not replicate the situation again.

A year later it happened again in my garage so I was able to do more diagnostics and what happened is that one of the main power plugs lost connection in the blade connector that connect the heavy red wire to the fuse box. Without pouring thru the wiring diagrams, it looks like power feeds the fuse box via two heavy red wires via a double blade connector. In my car anyhow there appears to be a lot of preload on the wires causing them to tilt the connector downward on one side.

To fix the problem, I removed the connector and with a probe, reformed the female wrap-around terminal. Prior to reattaching the connector, both the male and female components of the connector were coated with Stabilant 22 (this is the first time I used Stabilant 22, but others have championed its effectiveness). http://www.stabilant.com/techt02h.htm

This seemed to fix the problem so I thought I would write it up & post incase somebody else has the same problem.
