My 308qv Just Passed Emissions !!!!!!!!!(passed easily too)- always very stressful for me. The funny thing was they thought I was there for a re-test , I said re-test? what do you mean ?, they said another red/tan 308 was there 10 minutes before ! (it was a 1980)
They were really nice, didn't put it on rollers (just idle test) and didn't even test the gas cap, he said he didn't wan't to risk scratching anything. (best emissions test experience yet)
It was the testing station in Northglenn just a couple blocks East of approx 110th and Washington.

I had same type of experience, really funny on my 355

There was a HUGE line of cars and as I drove up they waved me over and opened a line. The shop was the one of south colorado blvd and c470.

So I went to the front of the line and they just did the tail pipe test while the workers all came over and HELPED the one guy do the test. Many people were not too happy about the tests going on hold while they all worked on one cars tailpipe test.

The best part was when I was leaving the two techs wanted there picture taken sitting in the car from there cell phone. I said what the hell sure, you guys saved me over 1 hour waiting in line so take all the pictures of you driving it you want.

They told me they had a F40 come in there a while ago and it was on the dyno. The boost kicked in and almost shot the damn thing off the machine. So, now they just tailpipe the f cars? Makes sense to me.

True story. It showed a big problem with the testing procedure when the driver gets boost when on the dyno. The car should never have been anywhere near the boost point durning the emissions testing. The arguements with the State afterwards seems to have fallen on OPEN ears this time when it clearly showed the driver to be just joy riding with no interest in having a car pass the test. Plenty of data can be obtained by just the idle / 2500 / idle testing.

when i took my 360 in, the guy came in the booth & wanted me to show him the cats, so i did, he wanted me to show him the o2s, so showed him the one i could see. he ask me about an air pump, i told him there is an electric air pump ( i think there is but cannot see it ). he seemed ok about all that. then i watched him pull the car up to the exit door. they didn't tail pipe it. treadmill it, nothing. he handed me an inspection report with zeros across the board & away i go!

That is funny I think that may have been my 308 in just before you got their. It's a red/tan 1980 and it failed the emissions test, they tried very hard to get it to pass but it just wasn't my day. I was their at that testing in station in the morning at about 9:15 to 9:30 if I remember right, if that was you to bad we missed each other always like to see other 308's. I did get it to pass about 2 months later. Bye the way can anyone recommend anyone or anyplace to get the 308 painted. After 27 years the original paint job is now showing signs of needing a new paint job. Thanks.

Sorry to crash your Colorado thread.....

I took my 550 into a local Arizona Department of Air Quality smog test stations last year. They ask that your exit your car and stand in a glass booth (like a phone booth) for safety and noise isolation. The technician madly banged away at the computer terminal, looked puzzled, and called over his supervisor. The supervisor looked at the screen and also looked puzzled. Both fellows walk over to the booth, open the door, and the supervisor asks, "How many cylinders does this have?" I answer twelve. He smiles and says, "Really? Very cool!"

I've found that that many of the smog test employees here are car nuts and its always a bit amusing to have an exotic tested.

Contact Mark Sutton at Mark of Excellence, 7550 W. 13th Avenue, 303-233-2497. He's on 13th Avenue just east of Wadsworth in Lakewood. He works out of his home, but has a very nice paint shop in a rather large building behind his house. He re-painted my driver's side last summer, and has done some amazing work on other Rocky Mtn FCA members' cars. He's not exactly inexpensive, but he does a fantastic job! His initial estimate was EXACTLY what I paid, even though he did quite a bit of extra work that I hadn't asked him to do. I can't recommend anyone else as highly as Mark.

on 116th and Teller... They always just put my car on the traction control side, put the exhaust catcher close to the tail pipes, do the idle test and push me through. The entire shop comes to a stand still and all the employees come over and check things out...

I heard about the F40 at the C470 emissions test place... A fellow Maserati coupe owner was there when it happened, they didn't even test him that day, just rolled him through and signed off.

You lucked out if you got out of the C470/Colorado testing place without incident.
In my experience, they have ranged from clueless, through useless, and on to outright dangerous.
They have broken small bits on some of my cars, hot rodded them on the rollers, and twice they have tried to drive the car off the rollers and to the exit without disconnecting the ignition lead wire.

    It is a scary place.

I had to take a couple of my work trucks there. NEVER again. They didn't have a clue what was going on. The worker almost got hit by cars, walking around aimlessly. I basically had to show him what to do.

Totally agree. They have broken several small things also on my cars and they are really hard on cars in general. One classic moment I will never forget is that after they failed me from my gas cap not passing, I later returned the next day with a brand new gas cap and after they told me that yet again I failed from the gas cap, I later had to tell her to get the right adapter and what do you know, it passed. Lucky me I will have to go there in a couple of months……
