Does anyone know how to remove the passenger side airbag dash cover. The leather is starting to deform the cover at the top corners (see picture) and i would like to remove it to have it redone. However, i was told that the cover is attached to the airbag unit. Can this be disconnected and removed? How??

That's on a 550. Is the procedure the same? Do I need to disconnect the battery before unplugging the airbag??

You had the Airbag removed and then covered it? Is that even legal? I needed to get paperwork to get an on/off switch installed.

If you ever sell it or have an accident, there may be liability issues.

Giving this thread a bump as my 456 passenger airbag cover looks exactly like Jason's photo. Interesting replies, but question raised in original post remains and is exactly where i am at. Seems like the cover might just pop out allowing for easy repair and replace. Guessing that it is not that simple, and would rather that the actual airbag not "pop out" as well ;)
Thanks in advance for any assistance here.

On the 575M, and I assume the 456/456M is the same, the airbag module is removed from the bottom by first removing the glove box. Make sure and remove the ignition key and disconnect the battery warns the WSM.

Looks very similar to changing the airbag cover on the 355 (same era so it makes sense). Several detailed step by step threads are available.

I recovered my 575 airbag cover by stretching the existing leather. I did not remove the cover from the airbag unit. It is removed from the car in one piece. I assume the 456 is similar.
