    Hello,

I recently learned that I'm missing the passenger kick plate in my '85 308 GTS. No wonder there was so much leg room. :)

The dealership found a used one for $76.00. They can't find the part number for it. But, I believe it's just a flat piece of metal (possilby bent over on the edges). If so, the price seems a bit high.

    Any thoughts on this?

I am sure you are correct, most of the interior panels are covered aluminum...maybe someone here could cut you a quick pattern and mail it??

That would be very helpful. The dealership stated that the part number (even though they can't find it) appears to differ between the GTB and GTS models. So, it would probably have to be a GTS QV model.

Also, some photos would be helpful, to know if it needs to be bent over on the edges or there are any bends in the sheet.

Either way, if I have the choice, I'd prefer to buy an original part.

It needs to be bent for strength. Otherwise a nervous passenger will push with their feet, easily bending it. The difference between plates of other models/years is due to mounting holes. While the shape may be the same, different model cars have different electrical thingys attached. While having a plate made (easily done starting with a cardboard template), consider having an 8" speaker added so you can finally hear the radio. Note I've added additional metal bars to strengthen it plus spring mounted the speaker so it doesn't get bent.

Is this you, Kevin? If so, I'm the one who pointed out that your plate is missing :) Anyhow, I can make you a cardboard template if you want.

    Yep, it's me.

I'm not sure that yours will work since our models are so far apart. I was going to chat with you about it again this Saturday. Cool?

That makes good sense. Thanks for the photo.

I'm kinda a purist and, although I've never won any awards, I'm trying to really keep everything as stock as possible. So, I'll probably skip the speaker. But that makes a lot of sense as a great location for one!!

    Thanks for the suggestion.

OK Paul... where did you move the slowdown control boxes?? Or did you not have them?

My car was void of cats, sensors, and hence, working circuitry when I bought it (fortunately, this is a no-test area). The two slowdown boxes lay loose on the floor beneath that speaker. While I did replace the door speakers and add two 50w stereo amps with a 10 disk cd in the trunk behind the engine, the primary sound even beneath the thick pile rug mat is from that 8" woofer configured for the mono output of one of the amps, and the door speakers in stereo to the other amplfier. (run on sentence but not a record)
