I feel entirely embarrassed asking this question, but does the passenger side (i.e., right hand side) air scoop do anything? The left is the air intake and and all you see when you look inside is the black duct it's connected to.

thought it was the same on the right side, but it's open and you can see straight in. There's no duct nor does it seem like there's room for one since the hoses (visible in the attached picture) are in the way. And if there were a duct, it's a mystery to me where it would lead. Is it supposed to be open like that?

Those look like air conditioning hoses - given my car doesn't have AC, I'll give you what I know. The passenger side generally has a hose, similar to the air intake hose, that directs air onto the oil cooler. Some one with AC will correct me if that isn't the case in those cars.

My early 246 L have a hose directed towards the generator.

Same grey duct on both sides.
right one goes to oil/water heat transfer unit
But your AC hoses appear odd position, perhaps far rear?

The passenger side scoop should have a hose connected to it that directs air towards the oil cooler (heat exchanger) on the right side of the engine. The hose is held in place in two places. One side connects to the duct on the door and the other side is held in place on a bracket that screws to a thread on the right side fuel tank right behind where the fuel sender is.

Ugh, that's what I thought. I did have the AC recharged, so they must've repositioned the hoses and then not bothered to put to the duct back. It was away at a shop for 2+ years due to a variety of delays, and I only recently noticed this (a year and a half after getting it back).

Thanks everyone for helping me out. The pictures have been super useful. Can someone point me to the proper parts diagram so I can find the bracket and duct? I'm wondering if it's part 24609125 at Superformance: https://www.superformance.co.uk/246/fuel.html, but maybe that one is too short (12")?

Do you use the Sanden AC compressore?

@Sergio Tavares Thanks for that detail regarding the lack of clamp on the tank for AC models. Since my AC works like a champ, I have not had the need to examine it closely. I do know from the history of the car that the AC unit is not original. Aside from some interior cosmetic refreshes, the rest is quite original.

I have not shared this with the community yet, but this is what 04502 looks like today (taken at a recent C&C). This car was (and is) not a garage queen, and the front end was sandblasted by the road, so a repaint was necessary. I hope I don't stir up too many haters with my custom color choice (in between Dino and Corsa Blu), but I figured that can be done when it undergoes a full restoration (@omgjon owned this one briefly and was apparently planning to do so). I need to drive it for a few more years first, though. :)
