PSA- Im a fan of watch straps. I have 4 different ones for my 5270. I like switching things up. The company that makes straps for Patek is Camille Fournet. They have an amazing website where you can custom create pretty much any combination of colors, stitching, materials- endless!

    Visit it here: https://www.camillefournet.com/en/module/ya_configurator/Configurator3D?code=FB-BO.4-LA.9-LB.B-LO.6-LG.A-MT.1-PO.1-RE.1-EP.5-FC.25-TA.0007-DT.1-FT.5-PA.2-FI.01-TR.01-MF.034-MD.252-CA.006-CD.194-IN.___&currency=USD&language=en

Thank me (or hate me later) Ive been sitting here for 2 hours playing around with what Im going to order for my 5524.

They have rubber straps that you can select. Not your typical aquanaut type strap but you can select rubber as a material.

I love it. I wear it much more than my 5905p - this is a versatile and robust piece. I really enjoy it.

Application pieces? - 5270p - the green dial, 5370 enamel dial, 5470 chronology, 5178 minute repeater would be my choices.

Thank you, all great suggestions. These are all magnificent pieces of course, I have a 5370p so probably wouldn’t do the 5370 or 5470 although I love them both. How fun would it be to have all three? I have always wanted a minute repeater but I find the 5178 a little plain, which of course is great from an understatement perspective but I’d want a little more to play with ideally. The 5270p green face would probably be my top choice and if the 5970 didn’t exist I would definitely want one. As gorgeous as the 5270 is, I can’t get over the perfect balance of the 5970 and for the same money would probably buy a 5970. I haven’t checked but am assuming these have come down in price. These comments are all made of course ignoring the small detail of the cost of these pieces!

All valid points. I think the 5270p (green dial) was my favorite piece when I went to Geneva. I loved the green- totally different than the 5905. But there was always something missing from the dial that I didn’t care for and finally figured it out- no tachymeter scale. Now I understand why they did this- it gives the watch a bit more sporty appearance- but I think I like my 5270j better- a bit more classic. They make other watches that are sporty.

5970 is the GOAT but for me it’s too small. 40mm doesn’t look good on my wrist- which is why I prefer the 5270.

5178- yes very plain but that’s what this watch is supposed to be. Understand till you start hitting the gongs! Lol.

But you make very valid points. Curious to see what you decide.

So I am now on the list for a 5172 (which is obviously regular production but I’m simply in love with) - but my choice of application piece would be a 5470p. I think it’s just gorgeous. Not just the overall design and the looks, but also the tech behind the movement is amazing. Also agree with SoCal to az on the 5178. - in my mind the fact that it’s understated makes it even more attractive actually.

Agree I think the 5470p is great but the 5172 is too so good luck with that.

Simple change of the strap transform the look. Its hard to tell from the pic but the blue strap brings out the blue dial more and makes it look smaller on the wrist.

Looks great! Where did you order the strap from? I tried to get one from Patek for mine (although I’d be looking for a different colour -my 5524 is the rose gold version-) but they have only calfskin or leather straps for it, nothing in canvas.

    I bought from: https://thestraptailor.com/shop/

Just make sure to let them know the exact size you need, lug and buckle.

No affiliation and not connected in anyway.

Www.camillefournet.com. This is the company that makes the actual straps for Patek. Tons of options on their website.

CF would usually be my first choice but tried the strap tailor based on a friend's recommendation.

With all respect for the Patek make, they have never made me lust for them. I owned one once...a Calatrava from the early 60s...and every time I wore it, I felt wanting. Just my personal reaction. Same with VC...pictures look great, but when I put them on my wrist, it just doesn't happen. I realize there is an art to how many complications you can stuff into 38mm to 42mm...but that has never interested me. Only one watch has broken all my aesthetic rules...and yet when I saw it and tried it on, I fell head over heels in love. But that is not a topic for this thread. I'll keep looking at Patek, and maybe someday I'll find one that wins me over.

5905 1a arrived today. I was speechless when I saw the watch for the first time. No picture can do justice to the tolerance of the links, the workmanship of the concave bezel, the contrast of the matte and polished surfaces, the incredibly subtle shade of the green dial, the shine of the hour markers and hands, the beautiful buttons for the fly-back chronograph. Even the clasp is a work of art. I consider myself hard to impress. I’m impressed.

So awesome! It’s right now my favorite piece in the collection. I used to have the 5905 p but this is just so much better. Looks great on your wrist! Congrats!!

I've posted pictures of it before...it absolutely kicked me in the head when I saw it in person and put it on. The rules it broke: 40mm, see thru case back, 21 mm lugs, small sub seconds, rose gold, deployant clasp. All these were on the list of things I don't want in a watch. I have always preferred 36mm case, 20mm lugs, 18k yellow gold, center sweep second hand, no display back, and tang buckles. But when I saw and tried on this Jaeger LeCoultre, that was it.
