Wow, some incredible pieces, really taking to this brand lately.
That is a beauty! I’ve looked at World Timers off and on for a while, but have yet to take the plunge. I do have a couple of questions for serious Patek fans though: Was Chicago purged for Mexico, vise-versa? Image Unavailable, Please Login A second question (probably not going to win friends with this one): Why do modern, complicated Pateks seem to just dump the whole typography set out on the dial? Given that most serious watch people are OBSESSED with detail, I would have thought that mixing typefaces of varying serif, sans serif, pitch, and orientation detail would be a killer. It seems they’ve moved away from their past elegance a bit in the process: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Many of the pieces you are discussing are “application” pieces. That is you must get approval from Geneva to spend $1MM on the piece. To get approval you must demonstrate that you are a collector having owned Pateks in the past. I don’t know the levels or numbers that would get you the approval. Start slow and enjoy. Here is my latest piece. 5270R Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Its the watch I will get when I turn 50 in a few years. My holy grail! However I heard that its being discontinued. Is that true? Anyone hear the same?
the 5970 was discontinued when the 5270 came out...not sure if the 5270 is being discontinued already
5970 I know was discontinued. What someone told me was specifically re the 5270. Maybe they redo it in a 42mm size which for me would be nothing short of perfection!
I have seen an unofficial list of the 2018 discontinued references. The 5270R is on the list. Typically Patek will end a reference line with a platinum version. So you might see a 5270P. Some say there may also be a 5270J. We will see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Let me know when you turn 50. I may be willing to sell this piece. I will likely get the 5204 model (split second )in the future. I have 13 more months of warranty on this watch. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

...and I thought I had a collection. This is an incredible lesson into a manufacture (PP). Thanks for the nice read.
what do you guys think the spread is between a new in box never worn 5970g and one that was worn but in excellent condition? 15%?

Honestly- 5% or less. The 5970 some consider the ideal Patek. Doubt there is much difference between the two.
There's a "similar" one on ebay right now, in gold. https://www.ebay.com/itm/PATEK-PHILIPPE-VINTAGE-2497-18K-ROSE-PERPETUAL-CALENDAR-c-1954/201773233258
