19 yo, shoestring budget, huge support from an enthusiastic family, engineering major at Ohio State, great, personable young man and, this afternoon, has a second SCCA National Championship, this year in a heavily contested class, FE. Well done.

This is why I love racing.

    nice story :)

I see he started out in F500, that's a great class that is often overlooked by kids trying to work up the ladder.

It's a great win. Patrick deserves all his success!

Scott Rettich had his rain light harness get caught up in the shift actuator. Had only third gear, pitted to fix it, rejoined and finished fifth.

    Ain't over until it's over.

Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...

Big congrats to LMPDesigner (Brian Willis) who has designed and massaged a West WX-10 to where it turned a 1:58.5 in CSR/DSR qualifying, driven by Scott Tucker...

Funny, you don't see, say, Chris Dyson, who ran well in SRF, bringing his team back to race amateurs. But some folks enjoy being a big fish in a small pond. I would like to see how this particular fish would do in a spec series, but no doubt ego will preclude that. Drop the Payday Loan King in Star Mazda, or USF2000, and let him spend whatever he wants - see how he does.

Awesome job! I am here and talked to Scott briefly, he was sure disappointed! I get to race with him tomorrow, loosely speaking, in SRF. I start 10 on the grid. The water here is deeper and I think there are sharks!

I watched this race and he simply drove away and managed the gap. He is running STO, GT2 and DSR. A friend referred to his effort against club racing amateurs as "clubbing baby seals". The Level 5 Racing compound is very impressive.

Brutal class, good luck! P10 is really good. My young friend Jason Wolfe is in that one, too.

    Stay in line!

Edit - Keith, a second off the Schofield/Miserendino qualifying pace at a huge track is fantastic, I tip my hat. Good luck.

Not to turn this into a bashing thread but, again, put him in an SRF against you and your fellow top 10 and he might discover that the seals have clubs, too. I would bet heavily against him.

GuyI makes a good point - the last time I was at Road America, they allowed bump drafting in SRF, but that was the Sprints a couple years ago. Are they allowing bump drafting at the RunOffs? Some of the tracks were outlawing it - I always thought it was part of the fun. Sometimes "bump" was an understatement though.

Great to be able to watch these races live on the internet. Saw the last half of the A sedan race: it was decided between the last corner and the finish line, amazing.

Indeed I did. 7th inSRF. Steep learning curve but I stayed with the lead group most of the time and the draft gave me 3rd fastest lap and a personal best at RA. Got into a tussle for 6th at the end and was 4 sec back of the winner at the checker. I am pretty satisfied, but need to clean up my driving some and work on car prep more. I can say that the cars were pretty damned equal and that is a breath of fresh air compared to other classes I've run.

PS Tucker's GT2 race went badly, he spun in 5, perhaps due to tire going down and had to pit. That pretty much ends a sprint race.

Congratulations, fantastic job. 3rd fastest lap, that's a stat I like a lot.

Have to brag a little bit:

Scott Tucker won the DSR National championship today.

Level 3 Racing set out 3 goals for the program:

1.) Set a sub 2:00 lap time in qualifying.
2.) Set a sub 2:00 lap time in race.
3.) Win race at National runoffs in DSR

And do all this with brand new car first time in competition.

A lot or work (more than anyone knows) but it all came good today. Is nice to have been involved in a small way on the program.
