Pat’s absolutely right - these cars hate to sit. Every time I’m over there he tells me I’m doing my car a great favor by driving it.
And regarding Pat’s comments about faulty ignition switches, my car was one of the three he’s seen with the problem. He was doing the PPI for the car back in 2012 and came back from lunch to smell smoke in the shop, coming from my ignition switch. The detent ball had somehow fallen between the power lead and ground. Luckily the damage was minor; who knows what would have happened if he hadn’t returned to the shop when he did. I now have a very nice heavy duty cutoff switch that I always use. The Dino in the video had much more wiring harness damage, and if I recall correctly the new harness took some time to be put together, and all the damage repaired. Luckily it was fixable.
There were some Chinese made switches around for a while and they were junk. The detent operation was so sloppy you could go around a corner and when the key fob swung it could turn the car off.
Love the part where he can't identify the pre-war Alfa Romeo, was really hoping for more on that car.
Patrick is a real authority on pre war Alfa Romeo. Has owned and driven one for years. Too bad he was not asked about it.
Patrick showed his Alfa at Pebble twice. once as unrestored then restored. beautiful four seater as i recall. I saw it at Ville D’Este also.
No the one in the video is a different one. The one you are thinking of is 2311238, it was a Figoni body on a long chassis. The video car looks like a Touring body on a short chassis but I could be wrong. This is a photo of me following Patrick's 8C into Mar-A-Lago. I was in a Lancia Delta S4. A few years back he traded the 8C for the Monza he was talking about on the video - the one his son Tazio races. I dimly recall him telling me he was once on the mobile repair crew for 8Cs running in an Italian historic race - maybe MM? Sounded like a fantastic experience.
great videos .. I will have to subscribe .. a great resource since my latest gotta have (one day) is a 330GTC and it sounds like Patrick Ottis would be a great resource for that car..even if he is on the wrong coast.. . but then again I bought my Dino with the help of west coast guy (Shaughnessy). And I still love that car
