Maybe this makes for more of Nico Rosberg . . . . or Natalie Pinkham! https://www.planetf1.com/features/reaction-paul-di-resta-sky-f1-exit/
Aside from DiResta’s situation I think that was a pretty succinct assessment of where F1 fans are right now: “My guy’s perfect and great so yours must be evil and awful.” Not too long ago F1 fans had their favorites but they weren’t tribal about it. I guess the rise of SM has gone a long way toward fostering that attitude.
Maybe Liberty wants to bring in Ryan Seacrest and change the series name to "F1 Idol." I thought DiResta's comments were intelligent when he discussed driving issues.
johnny herbert. no loss diresta. no great loss. kinda boring. plz get rid of f1 champ damon hill. hope it all doesnt end in tears. nico is good
Herbert not a great loss—didn’t bring much insight to the discussions even if he seemed a nice guy. Di Resta has some current experience in sims and races currently so he did bring good content though maybe he wasn’t the most animated guy. Agree with all about the fact that Hill should be the guy to go—I see him as a guy with a chip on his shoulder and with a high pro-Brit bias. Nico, I found, tends to be a bit dramatic and seems to like to stir up crap with exaggerated comments just for effect. Really not genuine. And just to be gender balanced, not sure Naomi has a place there. Not much relevant experience in racing at the sharp end—so leaving her only to hit on the usual talking points and platitudes—plus she seems hesitant to speak and I find the her uncomfortable to watch.
+1 you nailed it. Agree with all points. Damon Hill needs to conduct himself like a WDC--not a pro-Brit pro-Lewis acolyte.
yup. Especially since they broadcast internationally to a huge audience. No one can be completely unbiased and I wouldn't expect it, but the likes of Damon seem to go out of their way to promote Lewis.
I'm not sure that any of these guys will be missed. DiResta - I have never really liked. when he was at Force India, this was at Austin - Sunday AM, team photo time down in pit lane, - they have the early Am walk about, so I'm standing there watching the whole thing. whole team lines up behind their car, its DiResta and the other driver ( Sutil? ) in their driver suit- sitting on opposite tires. everyone smiling, Photog, up on a ladder, DiResta keeps his head down looking at his feet the whole time = will not look at the camera - big commotion, he just stubbornly sits there. Little kids sitting there taking pics, never moves... I think what a jerk! Perhaps he had just learned he's out at the end of the season? ... no matter be a professional.... so no loss to me. Its hard to like someone when you see their personal behavior up close... and they are NOT a star, just trying to make it. Rosberg, or Hill I could see - but they are champions. I've met Hill several times, and he's always been very nice, and easy to talk with. Rosberg... not so much... very snotty.
I'm less concerned about who's out then who will get their time? Danica? Please say no. I don't mind the women commentators or any commentator just as long as they're not propped up to show the world how diverse F1 is. A lot my favorite years took place during the V8 era. I really enjoyed Steve Matchett and David Hobbs... and I honestly didn't mind Diffy at all.
I also agree that dropping Herbert is no loss at all. However I did like Paul DiResta, he seemed to just call it as it is. I sure hope there is more Nico Rosberg, that guy is a no BS and will ruffle any feathers. Plus he will never lick Lewis' balls to satisfy the network. Unfortunately I don't think we will see any of the people we would love fill the roles. IF they are going to bring in new people, expect it to be some publicity stunt that doesn't belong just to appear they are inclusive.
In general I like them all. They all bring a different angle to the subject. None will ever say only things we like. Thats not how it works.
