Yup. He is truly my hero for that. Having his money helps, but he has huge heart & huge skills...and is extraordinarily humble. A killer combination!
I read an article that Paul's wife was trying to get him to stop racing. He didn't listen. Read this link: http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?id=1975915 Like you all have said, Paul is truly a hero. Let's hope he does well and doesn't get hurt at his next race.
He may be 80 years old...but he is still damn fast . I have raced in his group at two National SCCA events at Road Atlanta. He races a GT1 car. He won one and came in second in the other against some of the best National GT1 drivers. While he is very shy around the track he is also very friendly. After qualifying one of my crew went over to talk to him and never came back. When he came to the track the next day he told me PLN invited him to dinner. Go figure!!
The best you can do being married I met Paul Newman ones at Le Mans - really a charming quy David Piper, aged 75 now and also still racing has got full support by his wife Liz since he met him thru all the got and worse times. similar to Sir Stirling Moss ------------ Helmut Schnug - Classics in Camera images of Historic Automobiles & MotorSport
