I have been given permission to announce there will be a Lamborghini Class at Pebble Beach next year.

Initially, the one-off Lamborghinis are being sought to fill the field, space permitting and depending on factory participation,
a road car class could be added.

Please email me any one-off cars for consideration. [email protected]

    Thank You

Hey Joe (nunzio)! What happened to your post?? You deleted it just when I was about to respond. LOL.

Yes Im well aware that a few weeks ago I placed a post in the Miura thread about Pebble Beach snobbery. Anyone who has followed my posts closely on FChat has by now realized that I think very carefully before posting. That post reflected many Lamborghini owner's feelings and I stand by every word in it. It was designed to have an effect. I think it had exactly the effect I was hoping for.

In fact, the way I see it is: Sackey makes post suggesting blatant bias by Pebble. 2 weeks later a Lamborghini class is announced for 2008....... Coincidence? I think not. The way I see it I did my bit to get them to re-consider the clear bias against Lamborghini and lo-and-behold there is a Lamborghini class a-coming next year! The first one in 15 years!!! LOL. Make no mistake, my post was me doing my part for a marque I love and not a bid for me personally. Lamborghinis are globally accepted as some of the world's most beautiful cars and for that event to have any credibility with thousands of Lamborghini enthusiasts they should be included. Period.

Im well aware that this class has been "in the works for years". Years of Lamborghini enthusiasts and clubs pleading with Pebble to host a Lamborghini class to no avail...I suppose its never too late to make amends though :)
But for this atonement to be meaningful, we will need to see Lamborghinis at Pebble almost every year, just like Ferraris, Maseratis, Alfas et al. Not just once in 15 years. Good step in the right direction Pebble, but more work needed....

Now dont assume that I am one of those whose life can only be complete by participating in such an event. Im not the sort to wait around all day to have some blue-blazered fellow tell me if my car parked yonder upon the grassy knoll has made the cut or not. I am fairly well known in recent years for specifically asking for my car not to be judged whenever possible as I am turning away from the one-upmanship thing that judging brings - just my choice. Nor am I the type who grovels on hands and knees to be part of what is essentially an elitist event (which as may come as no surprise to some!). That fundamentally doesnt sit well with me. Quite frankly Im rather likely to give it a miss and I must confess I have NEVER taken the time to even attend the Sunday event in 17 straight years of going to the August car weekend, so my absence would be par for the course. Not my cuppa tea.

However, im sure I will be getting lots of phone calls and e-mails from prospective entrants, now that I am fully entrenched in the Lamborghini world on the commercial side too, and my standard response will be: "Please go ahead and participate if its your thing". I just want to know that Lamborghinis go to Pebble Beach, just as they SHOULD be at any top event. Thats all. My life and my cars do not get any better for me personally attending.

Lamborghini Class at Pebble? Its about time is what Id like to say in summary.... or to put it in other words, not a moment too soon.

It definitely makes the purchase of ZN-75 and it's reported restoration to original spec timely and meaningful. I hope to see it there, in it's original glory.

Perhaps we'll also be fortunate to see the 350 GTV and Marzal.

Im sure we can convince the latter 2 to come...I hope the Miura Roadster will get restored in time. But if it doesnt, my whole point is that Lamborghinis should be featured regularly at Pebble and indeed any concours so we can look forward to future classes too.

    Fred,
What I meant is that the collective 'noise' is heard. I am by no means the only one who has expressed dissapointment. Jim Heady has been banging the same drum as have half-a-dozen others. I know you guys have done your part too. My point was illustrative and I didnt mean to say the class has come about because of me. If you read between the lines thats clear.
Also the fact that Pebble has been "thinking" about this or "talking" about this for years doesnt make it any more excusable that they have avoided a Lamborghini class for 15 years. Doubtless, excuses will be put forth, but now its time to focus on setting things right.
Lamborghinis should be represented at all major concours.

    Fair enough Joe.

Btw, if you talk to Ferrari judges (which I sure you have) you will find that first of all they don't know anything about Lamborghinis, and are completely outraged when it is mentioned that they are in fact better cars, or at least were so initially.

Second of all, that there is no way in hell they would ever consider a Lamborghini even in the same sentence as a Ferrari, much less in the same level of competition.

But, as Charles Ives said, "Competition is for children."

So...whatever. It'll be nice to see some old Lambos back at Pebble.

Kaminski had my 400 on reserve for the original showing as the one selected was a fresh restoration and, of course .... did not run.

    Cheers,

    Fred

Priceless! And perfectly put! So true. It is that type of outmoded and blatantly biased way of thinking that is being turned on its ear nowadays. To me your first 2 points when exhibited in some judges (and some car enthusiasts too) is a display of utter ignorance and self-serving automotive folly.
BTW, one of the main reasons I do not allow my Miura SV to be judged these days is exactly your point: most of the so-caled judges that will suggest to you that they are the 'Miura man' or the 'Lambo man' in fact know precious little about Miuras or Lambos, and you only have to watch them judge and listen to them speak about Miuras or other older Lambos to arrive at that conclusion rather quickly.

As the saying goes: "Judge not lest ye be judged". LOL.

    Fred,

Thinking about it, if Lamborghinis have a class at Pebble, it will be meaningless unless people who TRULY Lamborghinis of all makes & models inside-out are the ones doing the judging. As you & I know this is a major problem.
I can see someone who was employed at Lamborghini in 1966 who worked as an engineer there and thus has over 40 years experience with the cars such as Zampolli, or someone who makes a living restoring the cars and is renowned for that such as Bobileff and others.
But lets hope we are spared the usual offering of judges who have 'had an old project laying around therefore I know the cars completely', or those who 'have a neighbour who has one'.

BTW among others, I nominate YOU :)

Joe, one of the main problems -- as you know -- is you can have an owner/expert judge and you're still going to have valid variations in cars because of the way the factory operated back then. Literally taking parts out of bins or off shelves until they ran out, then moving on to the next shelf or bin, or maybe even fabricating something on the spot, or finding an old part in the corner which works just fine.

Which, to me, is the beauty of hand-built cars -- no two are alike.

Still, I have crawled under Lambos restored by experts and seen immediate, glaring mistakes. A guy who runs a shop will probably not be the guy doing the work, and when a car has to "get out of here today" -- which simply always happens -- there are problems.

Anyway, if somebody wants to ask my opinion about something on the field, they can always buy me a ticket. :) $150 is cheap for that kind of info.

    Cheers,

    Fred
