I know aluminum pedals have been talked about alot lately, but
I want to order a set and I couldn't find anything on the DIFFERENCES between Hill and Ultimates..........anyone seen or owned both ?

Also what about serrated surface on the gas, I would like the dead, clutch, brake, and gas all to look the same, I spoke with Paul at Hill and he said they usually just do antigrip on the C/B not the gas, said people had complained about it. Anyone know why this would be or any reason not to go antislip on all 4 pedals for a uniform look ?

And does anyone know if Ultimate is matching Hills offer of a free dead pedal with three pedal order ?

Hey Rob are you around (hint hint) ;)

I live in the UK and I am always on the look out for bargains. I was deciding between Hill and Ultimate for my 512TR. It just so happens that if I were to get the Ultimate Pedals direct from the US (pay shipping etc etc) it works out to around £10 cheaper than buying direct from Hill Engineering. This is why I ordered a set from Ultimate Pedals and am waiting to take delivery at this moment. Hence the saying - RIP OFF BRITAIN.

    Dan,

I was curious on your reply and done a bit of research - please correct me if I am wrong.

Based on the same type of pedals ie: PS01

    UP price $97.00
    Shipping $36.00
    Total $133.00

    Total in Stirling £69.55
    Import duty @ 4.5% £3.13
    VAT @ 17.5% - £12.72

    Total £85.40

Our price including shipping and VAT (EU only) is £76.32.

It looks like it’s about £10 the other way? – Again, please correct me if I am wrong.

    Hi Perry,

Thank you for your order, we appreciate your business and kind words.

Regarding the anti-slip gas pedal, we have not had any complaints. The amount of grip the antislip surface creates is directly related to how hard you press on the pedal.

Since you don't need to press hard on the gas pedal, the anti-slip is not an issue.

However since you do press hard on the brake and clutch the anti-slip greatly improves the grip, even better than rubber (which can be slippery when wet).

Regarding a price comparison, we were happy to reduce our shipping to $10 for Dan as a thank you for his order.

On the subject of shipping, we also have our distributor DexM LLC in the USA that sells our parts including the full range of pedals.

    http://www.dexmllc.com/ph308ps01.html

Regarding the grip on the gas pedal - we did not receive any complaints, just people asking to swap over to the standard smooth type (like what is on the 355/360 etc). I think the problem that we have is that the serrations that we machine on our pedals are very sharp. When I installed one of the serrated gas pedals on my car I could feel the serrations biting into the rubber of my shoes and made it quite difficult to smoothly depress the gas pedal.

The picture below shows the “aggressiveness” of the serrations on our pedals for maximum grip.

Shipping becomes less of an issue if you consider the price difference on similar products.

For example 308/328 and 348/355 flanged footrest:

    Ultimate Pedals $49
    Hill Engineering $66
    Dex M $80

Unfortunately there is no comparison for our anti-slip flanged footrest or our flat footrest because neither Hill Engineering or Dex M offers that option.

Another example would be our 360 footrest:

    Ultimate Pedals $149
    Hill Engineering $189
    Dex M $185

Again there is no comparison for our anti-slip 360 footrest because it's not offered by Hill Engineering or Dex M.

If we look at Hill Engineerings current holiday offer:

gas, brake, clutch and footrest for $116

and compare that with a group buy from Ultimate Pedals:

gas, brake, clutch and footrest for $94.90

We regularly offer group buys (typically from 25% to 35% discount on all of our products except for custom engraving) on many other car forums that we sponsor.

Ultimate Pedals would like to be a sponsor of FerrariChat.com and offer group buys, but currently Rob Lay has a non-compete agreement with Hill Engineering.

The problem with non-compete agreements is that the consumer looses out on the benfits of a competitive marketplace.

    Hi Gang - Happy Holidays,

I love my pedals from Ultimate. I'll bet your this - - if I had bought pedals from Paul - do you really think I'd be less happy. Both of these guys are pros!! We make a phone call - chat and laugh a bit, talk about our cars and then order pedals for our beloved vehicles. Strike up a vibe with either of these companies. You won't loose - - they don't want you to.

    Cheers, Hank

If we are going to get into a comparison of products, please at least make sure that we are talking about the same quality. The Hill Engineering 360 footrest is made from a solid billet of 2 inch thick Aluminium! not from 2 pieces of sheet bolted together. The main reason that we started to do the solid billet 360 foot rest is that a fellow f-chat member approached us after buying a two piece design from Ultimate and was unhappy with the fit and finish (their words not mine).

As Hank say - were both pro's - and I don’t think that there’s no need to get into a pricing war. Quality has always been our number one priority and being established for over 55 years - I think we've got the hang of that now!

I haven't dealt with Rob and Ultimate Pedals but have heard nothing but good things about them and thier products!

That said I will relay my Hill Engineering story.

I ordered the aluminum pedals, an aluminum shift knob and a shift gate lock from Paul and his people. I recieved the whole package and couldn't wait to install it all.

I tried the gate lock first and found that it didn't quite fit my gate. I e-mailed Hill Engineering and recieved a reply from Paul himself. He told me that they had engineered the lock to fit several different variations of the 308 gate. Unfortunatley mine was just slightly different and the lock would not fit.

I figured he would offer to refund my money or give me some kind of excuse as to why it wouldn't fit. Well, he didn't do any of that. He simply offered to send me, free of charge, a new gate. All he asked in return was that I loan them my original gate so they could use it for further engineering.

I installed the pedals while the new gate was on it's way. The pedals are great and everything fit like a glove!

The new gate arrived, went right on, fit great and worked superbly with the gate lock.

All my e-mails were answered very promptly (one time so fast it almost felt like a chat room versus e-mail) and all the products have been outstanding!!

As far as I can tell the last couple posts were dead on. I know you can't go wrong with Paul's products and service and I'm sure Rob's products and service are equally outstanding.

Pick one and buy the product already!!!

    :)

    348 PAUL,

This is how much it cost me for the ULTIMATE PEDALS in satin finish:

    $69.00 - Brake And Clutch
    $38.00 - Gas Pedal
$10.00 - Shipping (Global Priority Airmail)

    TOTAL $117 (£60.98)

You see I spoke to the guy at Ultimate and asked him to remove the box for the pedals and instead wrap them up individually in bubble wrap then pop them into a jiffy bag, send this by US Global Priority Airmail and value the total package at a mere £18. This way the VAT does not apply because the value is so low. It's the chance/risk I can take.
