Shell Ultra Helix has always been the "official" oil, but difficult to obtain in North America, so Pennzoil Platinum Euro, was the "go to" alternative with Ferrari/Maserati approval.
Now with the reformulation, no longer approved.
    New PDS: https://shell-livedocs.com/data/published/en/89db797b-d00c-4b95-8e28-cb5ffd24705f.pdf

    Old PDS: https://shell-livedocs.com/data/published/en-US/0e00e77c-82e8-4754-a5d8-996047cd951b.pdf

You can still get the older version with Ferrari approval on Amazon, but probably not for much longer.
I wonder how this will be addressed for Ferrari/Maserati owners by Shell/Pennzoil? Start importing Shell Ultra Helix?

Don't bother with either one. There are plenty of suitable products to use. I put Amsoil European Car Formula 5W-40 Classic in my client's 360s and 430s.

The original Shell oil with the Cavallinos foamed pretty badly. That may be what you were remembering.

Sooo I been stopping at every Advance stocking up on the 5w-40 with the horsey on it because of this damn thread, think I have 3 years of annual maintenance saved up now...btw, there is currently a promotion where you buy 5 quarts and get a $15 gift card, ends up being 14 bucks for 5 quarts.

You can still get it on Amazon as well. But they are incorrectly saying the rebate applies when purchased in a 6pk case. It does not. I read the fine print, tried anyway, and got a post card denying the rebate, saying "no case packs, individual bottle purchases only".

Synthetic oil is synthetic oil when it comes to street cars being driven on the street

We still redline for fun. I take very few chances with an engine that costs upward of 25 grand to rebuild.

many of you oil expert swear by Blackstone oil analysis. this is on their FAQ:
    https://www.blackstone-labs.com/information/faqs/gas-diesel-questions/

What’s the best oil to use?
Ah, the million dollar question. We are an independent lab, so we don’t make recommendations. It has been our experience that oil is oil, and either petroleum or synthetic-based oil will work well for just about any engine.

Come on, you’re holding out on me. I should use synthetic, right?
Buddy, you should use whatever you want. Synthetic oil won’t guarantee a longer engine life any more than my eating organic food will guarantee I’ll live until I’m 90. We here at Blackstone generally use regular petroleum-based oil because honestly, it works just as well for us.

I suspect the Shell recommendation has more to do with appreciation for supporting Ferraris racing team, than any actual science or testing on cars like ours...or at least, not more than any other oil company does.
Surpised the manual doesnt tell us we should only wear Hublot watches and Rayban sunglasses when driving our cars.
