I think it depends where you get it from regarding the label. Seems in Europe it has the logo I suspect. I noticed that too. But the oil is the same still, so in it goes.

It appears the may be recommending the platinum racing for Ferrari now.

There are a lot of "acea a3/b3" oils out there, even Walmart supertech meets that.
I always thought Ferrari recommended that Pennzoil product for anti foaming or whatever

What is the difference between, say, Valvoline and Pennzoil in full synth 5w-40 European spec? One is $4.71/quart, the other is $10/quart.

If you read through the many oil threads here, you'll get all kinds of opinions on what oil to use. The thing to be vary about is foaming. Quite a few people have reported foaming with mobil 1 and even redline, royal purple, Castrol etc. Some don't have this issue. The one oil that has been consistent with no foaming reports is the Platinum euro I posted above.
I use mobil 1 in all my cars except the 355, which I have always used the Pennzoil euro.

I realized after posting that I was surely opening a can of worms to ask about oil....then I read through a couple of threads here. I'm gonna go with Amsoil 10-40. All too familiar with ZDDP issues since I have two air-cooled 911's and the Amsoil has the right levels of the good stuff.

Does Pennzoil have a spec sheet on their 5-40?

I searched quite extensively and found nothing. There is spec sheet but it doesn't list ZDDP.

    Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40 has 979 and 823 Z and P.

Someone on bitog did analysis to get that if I recall, had it in notes from years ago.

IMHO this is pretty insufficient for the 355's valvetrain design. Just because Ferrari recommends an oil doesn't mean the formulation is appropriate. Porsche used to recommend M1 oils for air-cooled engines that had way lower ZDDP than needed. People should make this decision based on spec sheets, not factory recommendations on engines they haven't been responsible for in 20+ years.

It's not that I want zddp. It's that I don't want cam lobe pitting. ;)

It's interesting that we haven't seen (to my knowledge) cam lobe pitting on 355's. I suspect it's because so few of our cars get driven enough to rack up miles. In the air-cooled 911 world this was a genuinely significant problem for several years before word got out about the right oils to use. I wonder if it's just the lack of miles put on 355's or if it's something like less spring pressure (but that doesn't make sense to me -- you'd think 355's would have more spring pressure given the higher redline). Hydraulic lifters shouldn't matter, as 993 cams suffered just as much from low-ZDDP oil as earlier 911's w/ solid rockers.

F355 valves are a hell of a lot smaller and lighter than 993 valves. Thus it wouldn't surprise me if spring pressure followed suit.
