First, what is it you want out of a swimming pool automation system? What do you want it to do for you? You can spend alot of money on a system that does everything you may never use, when an Intermatic MultiWave system is all you need.

For openers, here's a list of products I've personally experienced out in the field and recommend based on: ease of use, reliability, customer service and parts availability for repairs.

    1) Pentair IntelliTouch - Total automation from home or anywhere there is an internet connection or iPhone/Android
    2) Zodiac AquaLink - Total automation, iphone compatible. An alternative
    3) Intermatic MultiWave - Basic, Easy to use pool control with one touch remote control.

I'm not too crazy about Hayward AquaLogic systems. They work, they're alright, but they light up check system errors that are meaningless when all you can do is reset them without having to do anything. What purpose is that other than to get you wound up over nothing? If you really want to develop a drinking habit, add the salt generator for yet even more additional bogus error notes and messages.

If I didn't list it by name, it's not worth considering.

Pros/Cons, depends on your usage. The Pentair system is a win all the way around, the only con is how much you want to spend, because you can really go bananas upgrading all sorts of options with the Pentair.

I've compiled another short list that just gets to the point.

    As was said,

    1) What do you WANT it to do...?

    2) How big is your pool?

I build a 300k pool ten years ago. Several things I would do different now.

my pool is 40X20. built 10 years ago also. I have the old style pumps so im told I wld need to upgrade to the new variable speeds ones, about 2500 each and I have 4 pumps. I have the air buttons right now for the spa and those are annoying. its a summer house tho and we probably only use it for 40 to 50 days a year...

Im reguniting the pool next season, adding autofills on the pool and spa. That's going to run me about 20K from the estimates ive received so far. So if I were to do automation (Im being quoted 7 to 9K) and the 4 new pumps im looking at another 18k to 20k ontop of the 20k to regunite.

the air buttons suck bigtime....no question about it.

in this house I use control 4, but it seems pool systems don't necessarily have to integrate into the house system.

    WHAT?

Where do you live? That sounds seriously steep.

You do NOT need variable speed pumps. At all. And $2500 (US) per pump is easily 3x what I pay.

This house is in the hamptons, eastern long island.
How about the reguniting and autofills for 20k? That includes tiles.

When you say "reguniting," what do you mean? Is it this? (Because I would call that full restoration.)
