For my wife's birthday we went to Per Se, in the Time-Warner building. 3 hour tasting menu of indescribable gastro-orgasmic heaven. Service is IMPECCABLE perfection as well. Friendly, knowledgable without that stuffy stuck-up attitude. HIGHLY recommended.

+1 - I did per se a few years ago and I agree 100%...hands-down the most perfectly-executed dining experience I've ever had. If any of you run businesses, I suggest taking your management team there if you want to demonstrate how a perfectly in-sync shop is run.

Per Se is great. Also try Jean Georges, Bouley and Le Bernardin if you get a chance.

Le Bernardin has the best fish outside of Paris, IMO.

Best meal in NYC. Just got back from the French Laundry (the Per Se of the West Coast) and was once again bowled over by the food and impeccable service.

I second the recommendation for Le Bernardin - best fish in NY. And feel like I need to mention Daniel as another staple for a consistently excellent "special occasion" meal. And if you're looking for a great meal with similar level of creativity and much more reasonable pricepoint, give Dovetail a try on the UWS.

Agreed Per Se is by far best meal in NYC I try and go once a month and continually blown away every time. Keller is a genius. His Bouchon in Yountville is another amazing one, I tried that while I was out there last week and they have the absolute best fries in the world.

Rush, were you by chance at French Laundry for lunch last Saturday?

Jean Georges was good, but I was not overly impressed. Per Se sounds like a must try.
    Thanks

Yea Jean Georges is really not worth it when you look at the bill and know that for just a little bit more you can walk across the road and have 100x better its kinda lame. Of all his restaurants I think spice market is the best, the chicken samosas and beef short ribs are delish and quite addicting!

I like Per Se. Especially when you can book the East Room with 6-8 people.

However, if pressed, I think the desert part is overdone. It just does not stop.....

Was there on Thursday for dinner. As if the meal isn't spectacular as is, I went with a friend who worked at Per Se a couple years back which apparently warranted VIP treatment - extra courses, chocolates and a bottle of Billecart Salmon rose champagne on the house. Ended up being a 5 hour meal!

Bouchon's great too out in Yountville, but has taken on kind of a kitschy shopping mall feel in NYC as it's right smack in the middle of the Time Warner Center. Food's still pretty good though if you don't mind wading through a sea of tourists.

As for Jean Goerges, I've never liked any of his restaurants with the only exception being JoJo. If anyone goes, the Valrhona chocolate cake is a must!

Based on your rave review, I called for a month out. I'm on a waiting list :(

    So folks, book early!

Ah last Sunday there was someone across from me who was from the NY area with two very beautiful women thought it may have been you.

The Bouchon in Time Warner Center is an extension of Bouchon Bakery not Bouchon proper. It is really disappointing with the shopping mall feel and all the short cuts they've taken there.

ClydeM - If you like red wine ask for the 2005 Modicum its the wine Keller produces and is as amazing as the food. Also be sure to ask for a kitchen tour its quite a sight to see it in service!

Hah, no. Only one beautiful woman and my parents. Although my parents were buying so I'm sure that's one advantage over the guy you thought may have been me...
